Batterie warten: Diese Information deutet auf eine etwaige Fehlfunktion des Akkus hin. Dieser lässt sich jedoch auch weiterhin noch normal nutzen. Apple empfiehlt in diesem Fall einen Besuch beim kundigen Apple-Techniker. In den meisten Fällen bringt dies jedoch nichts, denn oft versteckt sich dahinter nur eine euphemistische Beschreibung für eine verringerte Kapazität des Akkus in Relation zum Ursprungszustand: meist ist noch zwischen 70 und 80 Prozent der ursprünglichen Kapazität vorhanden.
Was kann man tun? Nicht viel: Es empfiehlt sich zu einem, den SMC (System Management Controller) zurückzusetzen und den Akku regelmäßig zu kalibrieren. Auch sollte man aktuelle Firmware-Updates für das MacBook einspielen, sofern dies noch nicht geschehen hat. Mit etwas Glück verschwindet dann die Warnung – beim Autor dieser Zeilen hat es tatsächlich geholfen.

Bald austauschen: Die Ladung des Akkus befindet sich weit unterhalb der ursprünglichen Kapazität. Der Anwender kann noch normal weiterarbeiten, jedoch lässt der notwendige Austausch der Batterie nicht mehr lange auf sich warten. Derweil kann man sein Glück ebenfalls wieder mit dem Zurücksetzen des SMC und der Kalibrierung des Akkus versuchen.
Jetzt austauschen: Der Akku ist bald tot beziehungsweise kann die Ladung nicht mehr lange aufrechterhalten. Es empfiehlt sich ein zeitnaher Austausch des Stromspenders.

Die Grafikkarte kommt auch mit leistungshungrigen Spielen wie Metro Exodus oder Shadow of the Tomb Raider klar. In hohen Einstellungen könnt ihr hier mit Bildraten von etwa 60 FPS rechnen.Um das Gaming-Notebook zu einem derart günstigen Preis anbieten zu können, wurden an anderen Stellen einige Abstriche in Kauf genommen – etwa beim Betriebssystem. Windows 10 ist nicht auf dem Laptop vorinstalliert. Hier müsst ihr euch also selber um eine entsprechende Lizenz bemühen und das OS manuell auf euer Gerät aufspielen.

Nachbessern sollte man auch beim Massenspeicher. Da Spiele immer größer und größer werden, dürfte die Kapazität der verbauten 256 GB großen SATA-SSD wahrscheinlich nur den wenigsten über lange Zeit ausreichen. Zum Glück ist der 2,5-Zoll-Slot des Gerätes noch frei, sodass ihr eine passende SSD* oder HDD nachrüsten könnt.
Auf ein schnelles Gaming-Display mit einer Bildwiederholungsrate von 144 Hz muss man verzichten. Da der GTX 1060 aber in den meisten Spielen sowieso die Leistung fehlen würde, um eine solch hohe Bildrate zu erreichen, ist das meiner Meinung nach kein Beinbruch.

Wenn ihr nur wenige wichtige Daten auf dem Laptop habt oder eh mit der neuen Festplatte ein neues Betriebssystem installieren wollt, ist das Klonen der Festplatte natürlich unnötig. In diesem Fall solltet ihr einfach nur ein Backup der wichtigsten Daten auf einem externen Speichermedium machen, die Festplatte austauchen und dann das Betriebssystem neu aufsetzen. Wie das Installieren eines Betriebssystems funktioniert, erklären wir euch hier am Beispiels von Windows 10 und Linux Mint:

Die meisten modernen Laptops besitzen eine sogenannte Wartungsklappe. Diese Klappe ist häufig nur mit einer oder wenigen Schrauben befestigt und bietet euch den schnellen Zugriff auf Festplatte, RAM und teilweise weiteren auswechselbaren Komponenten wie dem WLAN-Modul. Normalerweise hat der Austausch der Komponenten, die über die Wartungsklappe erreichbar sind, auch keine Auswirkungen auf die Garantie (außer ihr macht beim Austausch etwas selbst kaputt). Wenn ihr auf Nummer sicher gehen wollt, solltet ihr dies jedoch in der Anleitung oder den Garantiehinweisen, die dem Laptop beilagen, nachlesen.
Je nach Hersteller und Modell ist der Ausbau der Laptop-Festplatte über die Wartungsklappe unterschiedlich, der Prozess ähnelt sich dabei in den Grundschritten. Geht wie folgt vor:

Hebt die Festplatte heraus und löst die Schrauben des Festplattenschlittens.
Nun müsst ihr nur noch die Schritte in genau umgedrehter Reihenfolge mit der neuen Festplatte machen.

Gerade bei älteren Laptops gibt es häufig keine Wartungsklappe und einige Hersteller sind auch heute noch keine Fans davon, dass Nutzer selbstständig Hardware austauschen. Wenn ihr keine Wartungsklappe an eurem Laptop habt, bedeutet das für gewöhnlich, dass ihr den gesamten Laptop auseinanderschrauben müsst, um an die Hardware zu gelangen. Wenn ihr euch trotzdem an den Festplatten-Tausch wagen wollt, solltet ihr nach einem Tutorial oder Video suchen, wo exakt euer Laptopmodell auseinandergenommen wird. Häufig sind Schrauben unter Gummipads, der Tastatur oder an anderen Stellen versteckt, sodass ihr den Laptop ohne genaue Anleitung wahrscheinlich nicht heile auseinandergebaut bekommt.

Ich habe mit Windows 3.1 angefangen und finde Windows 7 immer noch sehr gut. Mittlerweile ist Linux Mint (Cinnamon) mein Favorit, da Windows 10 Wege geht, die ich nicht immer gut finde. Welches Betriebssystem findet ihr heute am besten?
Gleich ob MacBook Pro, MacBook Air oder das neue MacBook Pro mit Retina Display – alle Mobilrechner von Apple nutzen für die Stromversorgung ohne Kabel moderne Lithium-Polymer-Batterien. Doch auch diesen fortschrittlichen Stromspendern ist kein ewiges Leben vergönnt. Mit jedem Ladezyklus verringert sich deren Lebenszeit.

Kurz umschrieben: Ein Ladezyklus ist der Vorgang, bei dem einem entladenen Akku erneut Energie zugeführt wird. Jedoch setzt dies voraus, dass die gesamte Batterieleistung aufgebraucht wird. Dies geschieht aber nicht unbedingt bei jedem Ladevorgang des MacBooks. Ein Beispiel: Der Akku besitzt noch eine Kapazität von 50 Prozent der ursprünglichen Ladung, danach erfolgt die Aufladung auf 100 Prozent. Wiederholt sich dieser Vorgang auf die gleiche Weise am nächsten Tag, entspricht dies einem vollständigen Ladezyklus. In der Praxis bedeutet dies, dass ein vollständiger Ladezyklus durchaus mehrere Tage in Anspruch nehmen kann.

Mit jedem Ladezyklus verringert sich unausweichlich die ursprüngliche Leistung der Batterie, meint, der Akku verschleißt und muss eines Tages ersetzt werden. Dabei gibt es keine wirklich festen Regeln, nach denen man bestimmen könnte, wie viele Ladezyklen ein Akku tatsächlich überlebt. Bei modernen MacBooks sollten allerdings einige hundert Ladyzyklen möglich sein. Bei den aktuellen MacBooks, deren Batterien vom Anwender selbst nicht getauscht werden darf, spricht Apple gar von 1000 Ladezyklen.

Eine um ein Fünftel verringerte Ladezeit dürfte in der Praxis zwar nicht die Welt bedeuten, könnte in kritischen Situationen aber durchaus ein nettes Feature sein. Insbesondere dann, wenn das Handy nur kurz an die Steckdose kann, dürften am Ende ein paar Prozentpunkte mehr an Akkuleistung zur Verfügung stehen. Der Hersteller OnePlus bleibt damit auf dem gleichen Weg wie zuvor und versorgt Kunden mit jeder neuen Generation mit einem sich schneller ladenden Akku.

Die aktuelle Pro-Version des OnePlus 7 bietet 4.000 mAh und lädt mit bis zu 30 Watt auf. Wie es um die Kapazität der Batterie des OnePlus 7T Pro bestellt ist, kann derzeit aber noch nicht gesagt werden. Zuletzt hatte eine Meldung der Konzernschwester Vivo für Aufsehen gesorgt. Das Vivo Nex 3 soll sich mit bis zu 120 Watt aufladen lassen – doch beim kommenden OnePlus 7T Pro wird die Technik allem Anschein nach nicht zum Einsatz kommen. Ein noch schnelleres Aufladen könnte aber mit der geplanten McLaren-Edition des OnePlus 7T möglich werden. Echte Details fehlen hier aber ebenfalls noch.

Bislang hatte der chinesische Hersteller in etwa alle sechs Monate ein neues Handy auf den Markt gebracht. Im Frühjahr kommt die Standardausführung – und jetzt auch eine Pro-Variante – während es im Herbst ein T-Update gibt. In diesem Jahr könnte OnePlus das OnePlus 7T (Pro) allerdings schon früher veröffentlichen. Angeblich ist es für das OnePlus 7T bereits Mitte Oktober 2019 der Fall.

Bisher hatte das Unternehmen seine neuen T-Modelle immer erst gegen Ende Oktober vorgestellt, um sie dann im November in den Verkauf zu geben. Wann der Verkaufsstart für das OnePlus 7T Pro beginnen wird, ist aber weiter unklar. Dieser könnte aber durchaus ebenfalls früher durchgeführt werden – vielleicht sogar noch Ende Oktober 2019. Es gibt viele Gründe, weswegen ihr die Festplatte aus eurem Laptop ausbauen oder wechseln wollt. Beim Ausbau einer Festplatte muss man sich zuvor überlegen, was man vorhat. Will man nur die Festplatte aus einem alten Laptop ausbauen, den man eh nicht mehr nutzt, den Speicher des Notebooks durch eine größere Festplatte erweitern oder den Gaming-Laptop durch eine schnelle SSD beflügeln? Da es natürlich noch etliche weitere Szenarien gibt und der Ausbau der Festplatte sich je nach Hersteller und Modell unterscheidet, können wir natürlich keine allgemeingültige Anleitung schreiben, sondern nur eine Checkliste mit den wichtigsten Hinweisen bieten.

Bevor man an der ersten Schraube dreht, sollte man sich zuvor überlegen, was mit dem System geschehen soll. Das Problem am Laptop: Man hat für gewöhnlich nur Platz für eine 2,5 Zoll Festplatte. Wollt ihr also eine größere Festplatte oder eine schnelle SSD einbauen, muss die alte Festplatte raus. Hier gibt es nun 2 mögliche Szenarien:
Wenn ihr das System unverändert auf der neuen Festplatte weiternutzen wollt, könnt ihr die Festplatte klonen (auch spiegeln genannt). Hierbei wird eine 1:1-Kopie eurer Partition oder der gesamten Festplatte angelegt. Wenn ihr auf eine SSD mit weniger Speicher wechselt, müsst ihr hier jedoch vorher sicherstellen, dass die Partitionsgröße nicht den Speicherplatz der SSD überschreitet.

8. Make a Digital Meet-Up Plan
Just like your family may have a plan to meet at the tree in front of your house in case of a fire, it’s a good idea to agree on a social media meeting place in advance of a natural disaster, says Anita Chandra, an expert on disaster response at the RAND Corp. “Having a social media game plan is part of any disaster plan,” she says. “And it’s something that needs to be thought through.”

The first order of business is to agree on a platform, such as Facebook or Twitter, then make sure whatever platform you use is installed on everyone’s devices. Tools such as GroupMe, a group-messaging app, can also make it quicker and easier to communicate. Also designate an out-of-town contact who’ll know to expect your check-ins. That way, if people in the disaster area have only intermittent service and can’t get in touch with each other directly, or even have to borrow someone else’s phone, there will still be a central source of information for your family.If possible, try to agree on a check-in time to eliminate unnecessary worrying. 9. Set up Your Emergency Contacts
Many phone users are a bit haphazard about organizing their contacts, especially for their closest friends and relatives. “We tend not to list people by their relationship to us,” Chandra says. She suggests taking a few minutes to set up an ICE (In Case of Emergency) contact in your contacts list, and perhaps even more than one—your spouse, who’s likely to be nearby, and perhaps a sibling or other close relative who lives out of town.

Additionally, iPhone owners can use the Medical ID function in the device’s Health App to set up emergency contacts. Even if the phone is locked, first responders will have access to these critical contacts through the emergency function on the lock screen. On Android phones, the options for setting up emergency contacts vary by model, but you might try the My Information sub menu, or the ICE app ($3.99).

10. Set up Useful Alerts
Getting the right weather and public-safety information is crucial to making smart decisions during a disaster, and you have more options than ever, says Joseph Trainor, director of the disaster science program at the University of Delaware.

“What do you want? Something simple or something sophisticated?” he asks. The National Weather Service, for example, can give you detailed meteorological information about a storm’s stats that can be interesting but not always useful. “It’s not just about the threat,” Trainor says. “It’s what you’re going to do about it.”

Instead, Trainor suggests focusing on signing up for alerts before a storm or other disaster hits. Pay special attention to information that comes from local and county officials who not only predict what will happen but also offer concrete should-I-stay-or-should-I-go advice based on the latest forecast and other conditions. “These alerts should be reminders that there are things we can do to reduce the risks,” Trainor says.

If your computer has a DVD drive, tossing a couple of your favorite DVDs into your bag isn’t a bad idea. If you have a battery-powered radio—or even better, one that’s powered by hand-cranking—be sure to throw that in the bag as well.

2. Charge All Your Devices
Once you’ve picked your devices, the next step is to make sure they can power up. "Start by fully charging all your devices—your phone, your tablet, and your laptop—well ahead of an emergency event," says Maria Rerecich, the director of electronics testing for Consumer Reports. "Then remember to put all your chargers in your go bag." Ahead of time, purchase spare batteries or portable chargers and be sure to charge them, too.

Remember, a smartphone could become the primary way you summon help and track your relatives in a disaster. It’s a survival tool—and one that only works if its battery is charged.

3. Bring Your Car Charger
Bring a car charger, or buy one if you don’t have one. It’s a useful way to top off your phone if you lose power. If you’re worried about draining your car battery with your phone, well, don’t. “You’re not going to kill your car battery,” says Richard Fisco, head of smartphone testing for Consumer Reports. “You could charge 20 phones simultaneously and your car would still crank.”

4. Stash a Power Strip
In a crisis, the right $10 gadget can improve your life immeasurably. When Rerecich’s home was left without electricity after Superstorm Sandy, she packed a power strip and found it invaluable while charging her devices with similarly powerless neighbors at a nearby public library. "Instead of taking turns plugging and unplugging devices, we could power six devices at once," she says. "Everyone was happy."

5. Conserve Your Phone’s Power
The other side of the energy equation is doing all you can to conserve energy. “Most phones have a battery-saver mode, which disables automatic updates and notifications,” Fisco says. He adds that you can also save energy by reducing your phone’s display brightness and turning off the auto brightness feature, which may override your new stingier settings.

Turn off WiFi if you’re on the road and away from a WiFi network. And abstain from using power-hungry apps unless they’re totally necessary. “If you’re really concerned about conserving the charge in your battery, you shouldn’t be streaming video, shooting video, or even taking pictures,” Fisco says. 6. Pack in Plastic
"Electronics and water don’t mix," Rerecich says. To keep your devices dry, she suggests packing a variety of zipper-seal bags: sandwich-sized for smaller phones, quart-sized for larger phones and AC adapters, and gallon- or jumbo-sized for tablets and small laptops.

7. Back up to the Cloud
You should be backing up the hard drive of your computer and any other devices. If you’re using a physical hard drive to do that, you should consider backing up to the cloud as well so that your data will be safe even if your regular backup drive gets damaged. Cloud backup is either free or quite inexpensive.

Das Londoner Startup Arroe sammelt auf der Crowdfunding-Plattform Indiegogo Geld für seine stylische Tasche LAER. Doch sie kann deutlich mehr als nur gut auszusehen.Praktisch und gleichzeitig schick, diese beiden Produkteigenschaften passen häufig nicht zusammen. Beim Projekt der britischen Firma Arroe ist das anders: Sie präsentieren eine Tasche für Laptops, Smartphones und Tablets, die mit einem integrierten Akku alle Geräte unterwegs auflädt. Das Ende von blinkenden Akkuanzeigen und nervigen „Nur noch 10% Akku“-Hinweisen auf dem Smartphone.

Die LAER, ausgesprochen wie das englische Wort „layer“, ist aus schwarzem Nylon gefertigt und sehr schlicht gehalten. Oben befindet sich eine magnetische Schließe und unten ein hervorgehobener Kreis, der zum drahtlosen Laden des Smartphones genutzt wird. Die Tasche besteht insgesamt aus drei Lagen: der Oberseite aus Nylon, einer Polsterung in der Mitte und einer weichen Fütterung im Innern. Es wird nicht genau benannt, wie groß der Laptop sein darf, in den Produktvideos scheinen vorerst maximal 13-Zoll-Laptops Platz zu finden. Es sollen aber auch noch größere Varianten vorgestellt werden.

Den Platz im Inneren der Tasche müssen sich die Geräte mit dem integrierten Akku teilen. Er ist aber nur knapp 1 Zentimeter hoch und wiegt zwischen 200 und 350 Gramm. Zwischen zwei Varianten kann man wählen: Im Basis-Modell ist ein 5.000 mAh Akku verbaut, der ein iPhone 7 genau zweimal aufladen kann. Ein MacBook Pro 13-Zoll wird allerdings nur bis zu 30 Prozent der Kapazität aufgeladen. Wer mehr Power braucht, kann sich das Pro-Modell mit einem 20.000 mAh Akku zulegen. Damit wird das MacBook zu 120 Prozent aufgeladen und das iPhone 7 kann bis zu 8 Mal wieder vollgeladen werden. Das Besondere an den Akkus ist, dass sie sich austauschen lassen. Wenn in Zukunft noch größere Modelle vorgestellt werden, kann die Kapazität einfach aufgestockt werden.

Smartphones können auch drahtlos über den Qi-Standard geladen werden. Dazu muss es einfach an der Vorderseite auf den markierten Kreis gelegt werden. iPhone Nutzer und alle anderen, deren Smartphone kein Wireless Charging unterstützt, können eine Schutzhülle mit dieser Funktion für 10 US-Dollar gleich dazu kaufen.

Den aktuellen Ladezustand des Akkus kann man über die zugehörige App kontrollieren. Zusätzlich ist ein Sender der Firma TrackR in der Hülle integriert. Damit lässt sich die Tasche wiederfinden, falls sie mal verloren geht. Allerdings funktioniert der Sender nicht über GPS, sondern nur über Bluetooth und braucht ein Smartphone in der Nähe, um den Standort anzeigen zu können.

Die Basic-Variante beinhaltet einen 5.000 mAh Akku und die Pro-Variante den größeren 20.000 mAh Akku. Beide Versionen beinhalten die Hülle und alle Adapter. Zusätzlich gibt es eine Traveller-Variante mit einer Umhängetasche, die genau passend für die Hülle ist. Noch gibt es alle Versionen zum „Early-Bird“ -Preis: 100 US-Dollar für die Basic-, 140 US-Dollar für die Pro- und 160 US-Dollar für die Traveller-Variante.

Business-Flaggschiff die Zweite. Motorola war überaus ambitioniert mit dem Atrix der ersten Generation. Man wollte hier die beiden Welten von Smartphone und Netbook nahtlos vereinen. Dazu noch einen Sicherheitskomfort mittels Fingerabdrucksensor und eine High-End-Ausstattung. Doch trotz der 2x 1 GHz war die Power für die Netbook-Erweiterung nicht genug. Flüssiges Arbeiten sieht da anders aus. Die Idee, das Smartphone in ein Laptop-artiges Gehäuse zu stecken, das weder CPU noch RAM hat, sondern nur einen Bildschirm, Tastatur, Akku und Anschlüsse aufweist war aber klasse. Darum wäre es auch wünschenswert gewesen, eine Schippe drauf zu legen beim Atrix 2 und 2x 1,5 GHz zu spendieren. Aber da wird nichts daraus. Es stagniert bei dem einen Gigahertz, welcher die ebenfalls gleichen 1 GB RAM verwalten muss. Das ist an sich nicht so schlimm, wäre da nicht besagte Linux Umgebung auf der Netbook-Seite, die betrieben werden möchte. Das Display war beim Vorgänger trotz 960×560 Pixel kein Highlight. Man bediente sich der unschönen Pentile-Matrix-Technik. Diese ist in der Produktion sparsamer, das Display sieht aber verwaschener aus.

Nun hat man von dieser Technik augenscheinlich Abstand genommen. Die hohe Auflösung blieb. Dagegen musste der Fingerabdrucksensor weichen. Das Lapdock, also die Netbook-Erweiterung bekommt auch eine neue Revision und wird nun nicht mehr direkt angedockt sondern via Kabel verbunden. Somit sind dann auch andere Smartphones damit verwendbar. Die Büro-Zielgruppe bekommt als Features „On Device Encryption (ODE)“ und „Enhanced Exchange ActiveSync® (EAS)“. Das Display ist auch bei der Diagonale gewachsen nun hat man 4,3 statt 4 Zoll. Ebenfalls sehr schön, ist das man nun HDMI-Mirroring integriert hat. So sind nicht nur Teilbereiche, sondern das komplette Gerät am Fernseher nutzbar. Der interne Speicher ist von 16 auf 8 GB geschrumpft.

Das Dell XPS 11 2-in-1-Ultrabook gehört, neben den Venue 8 Pro und Venue 11 Pro Tablets, zu den interessantesten neuen Windows 8.1 Geräten, die das Unternehmen in Kürze auf den Markt bringen wird. Man bekommt bei diesem Convertible-Ultrabook eine Kombination aus High End Tablet und normalem Notebook, welches zudem mit dem Active Stylus von Dell bedient werden kann. Die kompakte Bauweise lässt es zwar nicht vermuten aber das Dell XPS 11 lässt sich anscheinend leicht zerlegen. So kann man beispielsweise nicht nur den Akku tauschen, sondern auch die WiFi-Karte und die mSATA SSD. Genau das verrät nämlich das offizielle Service-Handbuch.

Dell hat beim XPS 11 anscheinend darauf geachtet, dass eine Reparatur nicht unmöglich erscheint, wie man es oft von anderen Ultrabooks oder High End Tablets kennt. Der Akku ist dabei in der Tastatur-Einheit untergebracht und lässt sich relativ simpel erreichen, indem man alle Schrauben an der Bodengruppe entfernt und die untere Abdeckung abnimmt. Dabei ist auch der Akku nicht großartig verklebt, sondern wirklich nur angeschraubt und mit einem Kabel an der Systemplatine angebracht. So könnte man den Akku im schlimmsten Fall auch selbst austauschen. Man müsste halt nur abwarten, wie die Verfügbarkeit von Ersatzteilen ausschaut nach der Auslieferung Anfang Dezember.

Hat man die Bodengruppe entfernt, bekommt man auch direkten Zugriff auf die normale mSATA SSD. Entschließt man sich also zum Kauf der kleinsten Version für 999€ mit nur 80 GB großen SSD, könnte man dort sogar selbst eine größere mSATA SSD einsetzen. Es scheint sich dabei auch um eine normale Größe zu handeln, somit könnte man beispielsweise zu einer Crucial M500 mit 240 GB oder sogar 480 GB greifen. Diese liegen Preislich bei 150€ bzw. 300€. Müsste man im Endeffekt einfach ausprobieren, wobei das nach dem Verkaufsstart sicher erste Nutzer machen werden - besonders jetzt mit dem Service-Handbuch.

Gleiches gilt dann im Endeffekt auch für die Wireless Karte. Dort wäre es interessant zu sehen, ob auch eine UMTS-Karte eingesetzt werden könnte, wobei die Antennen da sein müssten, damit man genug Empfang hat. Auf dem Bild sieht man aktuell nur eine Antenne, das wäre vermutlich etwas zu wenig. Auch das müsste man ausprobieren, wobei es sich dabei um eine ziemlich kurze Karte handelt.

On a typical 240-volt, 30-amp (Level 2) charger, it takes between 9 and 13 hours to fully charge an EV that can go more than 200 miles. Plug-in hybrids, with their smaller batteries, take significantly less time to recharge. For instance, it takes about 2 hours to replenish the Toyota Prius Prime.Expect about triple those times when charging from a standard 110-volt (Level 1) household outlet. Put another way, on a standard household outlet, expect to get about four miles of driving for every hour of charging.

A wider variety of 240-volt chargers are coming on the market that charge at different speeds, with charge times that vary depending on the car and charger. Some systems, such as Tesla’s High Power Wall Connector home charger, replenish the battery much quicker with Teslas equipped for high-rate charging.

Publicly accessible DC fast chargers are spreading throughout the country. These can replenish up to 50 percent of the battery’s range in 30 to 45 minutes. Tesla’s superchargers are even quicker, with the speed varying by model. The most common V2 superchargers can restore 50 of the battery capacity in 30 minutes for the Long Range versions of the Model 3, S, and X.
Electric cars achieve the biggest benefits and cost savings when they’re charged overnight at home when electric rates may be lowest. As another benefit, most electric-car drivers say they find it much more convenient to just plug in at home than to have to stop at gas stations.

It’s possible to charge a plug-in hybrid overnight, even on a standard 110-volt household outlet.“Most PHEV owners will not need a Level 2 charger,” advises Gil Tal, director of The Plug-in Hybrid & Electric Vehicle Research Center at the University of California, Davis. “The Level 1 charger that is provided with the car can charge the battery back to 100 percent overnight.” Tal adds that Level 1 may be sufficient for many electric car owners, as well, if they do not drive more than 40-50 miles per day.

It’s worth investing in a wall-mounted charger if you need juice quicker than 110-volts can provide and you don’t have convenient access to a public or workplace charger. Wall units are available online through Amazon, Costco, Home Depot, Lowe’s, Sam’s Club, among others. The cost is typically $500 to $700.

Insgesamt hat der Lenovo Legion Y740 vor allem mit Problemen zu kämpfen, die ich auch immer wieder bei der Gaming-Laptop-Konkurrenz beanstanden muss: allem voran die geringe Akkulaufzeit, die zu lauten Lüfter und die mangelnde Mobilität. Wer sich damit arrangieren kann, bekommt hier einen verhältnismäßig günstigen High-End-Gaming-Laptop geboten mit massig Leistung, den man auch mal mit ins Büro nehmen kann, ohne schief von den Kollegen angeguckt zu werden, wenn man die Discolichter ausschaltet. Zumindest so lange, bis die Lüfter das erste Mal im Meeting voll aufdrehen.

Verarbeitungsqualität: Keine fiesen Spaltmaße, robustes Aluminiumgehäuse, gute Druckpunkte bei Tastatur und Mauspads. Lediglich der Bildschirm wabbelt ab und an etwas leicht hin und her, wenn man zu energisch in die Tasten haut.
Performance: Trotz der angesprochenen Drosselungsproblematik bietet das Gaming-Notebook von Lenovo eine fantastische Leistung in aktuellen Spielen – auch auf höchsten Einstellungen und mit aktiviertem Raytracing.

Design: Business- statt Raumschiff-Optik. Man merkt alleine am Design des Lenovo Legion Y740, dass der Hersteller keine jugendliche Zielgruppe anvisiert. Über Geschmack lässt sich streiten, ich empfand das schlichte und zurückhaltende Design aber als sehr angenehm.
„Highlights“ auf der Rückseite: Damit ihr nicht ewig auf der Rückseite eures Laptops nach dem USB-Port oder Netzteilstecker suchen müsst, hat Lenovo die entsprechenden Stellen illuminiert. Kleines Feature, große Wirkung.

Lenovo Legion 740 im Test: Das hat uns nicht gefallen
Lärmbelastung: Dass der Lüfter in Spielen mal so richtig aufdreht, hat mich noch nie gestört. Dass der Laptop auch beim Starten meines Browsers, dem Öffnen von Office-Programmen und dem Arbeiten mit Bildbearbeitungs-Software immer wieder kurzzeitig die Kühlung bis zum Anschlag hochfährt, ist aber verdammt nervig.
Wärmeentwicklung: Obwohl die Lüfter unter Last richtig aufdrehen, schaffen sie es nicht, die CPU des Laptops vernünftig zu kühlen. Die Folge: Das Notebook wird mit der Zeit immer wärmer, die Taktraten immer geringer. Dadurch wird Leistungspotenzial verschenkt.

Akkulaufzeit: Wer das Lenovo Legion Y740 über mehrere Stunden hinweg nutzen will, sollte sich stets in der Nähe einer Steckdose aufhalten. Dem Laptop geht schnell die Puste aus.
Fehlender SD-Karten-Slot: Ach komm schon, Lenovo! So ein essenzieller Port darf meiner Meinung nach an einem solch leistungsstarken Gerät nun wirklich nicht fehlen.
iCUE-Software: Die Software zur Anpassung der RGB-Beleuchtung schien ein paar Probleme auf meinem System zu haben. Nachdem ich die Anwendung im Tray minimierte, konnte ich sie nicht mehr aufrufen, geschweige denn das Programm beenden. Hier half nur noch ein kurzer Abstecher in den Task-Manager oder ein kompletter Neustart.

Backlight-Bleeding: Das Backlight des Lenovo Legion Y740 scheint so stark in dunklen Spielszenen im abgedunkelten Raum hervor, dass es nicht unerwähnt bleiben darf. Wenn man einmal darauf achtet, kann man es nicht wieder vergessen und richtet seinen Blick beinahe automatisch auf die unschönen Lichthöfe. Solche Probleme sollte es bei einem 2.000 Euro teuren Gaming-Laptop schlichtweg nicht geben.
Speicherplatz: Lenovo hätte sich keinen Zacken aus der Krone gebrochen, wenn sie die Größe der SSD verdoppelt hätten. 256 GB werden schneller voll aus man denkt und danach bleibt nur noch die deutlich langsamere HDD.

Das hohe Gewicht dürfte neben der Größe des Geräts unter anderem durch den Einsatz hochwertiger Materialien liegen. Trotz des verhältnismäßig günstigen Preises setzt Lenovo beim Gehäuse nicht auf günstigen und leichten Kunststoff, sondern auf eine mattgraue Alu-Oberfläche. Wenn die RGB-Beleuchtung der Tastatur und des Lenovo-Logos auf der Außenseite nicht wäre, könnte der Gaming-Laptop beinahe als riesiges Business-Notebook durchgehen, doch genau zu diesem Anwendungszweck eignet sich der mobile Rechner gar nicht.
Die Akkulaufzeit fällt nämlich trotz einer Akkukapazität von 76 Wh gering aus. Wenn das System ohne Netzteil betrieben und unter Volllast (volle Helligkeit, Hitman-2-Benchmark in Dauerschleife) gesetzt wird, macht der Akku nach etwa 55 Minuten die Grätsche.

In der Regel taktet das System automatisch Prozessor und Grafikkarte herunter, sobald das Gerät vom Netzteil getrennt wird. Je weniger Saft im Gaming-Laptop, desto stärker wird die Hardware gedrosselt. Das spiegelt sich dementsprechend auch in den Bildraten wider. Das ist auch beim Lenovo Legion Y740 so, fällt dank des G-Sync-fähigen Displays aber nicht so stark auf. Die Technologie sorgt dafür, dass die Bildrate des Displays mit dem Output der Grafikkarte synchronisiert wird. Die Folge: Bildzerreißen, auch „Tearing“ genannt, gibt es nicht – auch nicht bei Bildraten, die unter der 30-FPS-Marke liegen. Das Bild wirkt stabiler und flüssiger.

Doch zurück zur Akkulaufzeit. Wird die Helligkeit etwas reduziert, die RGB-Beleuchtung deaktiviert und das Notebook nur für Office-Arbeiten genutzt, erhöht sich die Akkulaufzeit immerhin auf 2,5 Stunden. Wer den Laptop also öfters mal unterwegs nutzen will, sollte lieber das Netzteil einpacken. Wenn der Akkustand unter 25 Prozent fällt, taktet sich der i7-Prozessor auf gerade einmal 0,8 GHz herunter, was sich auch in der Performance des Systems bemerkbar macht. Selbst das Wiederaufrufen von Programmen und Fenstern, die bereits geöffnet wurden, fühlt sich ab diesem Zeitpunkt deutlich träger an.

Tastatur und Touchpad leisten sich indes fast keine Patzer. Die Druckpunkte ist sehr angenehm, das Schreibgefühl fühlt sich bei allen Tasten gleich gut an – und das obwohl mein Testmuster wahrscheinlich schon durch einige Redaktionen gewandert ist. Woran ich das festmache? Die linke Maustaste unter dem Touchpad ist schon etwas ausgeleiert. Wenn ich die Taste in der unteren linken Ecke drücke, wird kein Klick registriert. Laut Lenovo handelt es sich hierbei um einen Einzelfall, unerwähnt sollte das Problem aber nicht bleiben.

Dank der Größe des Laptops hat auch ein Nummernblock seinen Weg ins Gehäuse gefunden. Das Layout der Tasten unterscheidet sich jedoch von bekannten Nummernblöcken, zudem fällt die Größe der Tasten kleiner aus als die der restlichen Tastatur – Vertipper sind hier also vorprogrammiert. Auch die Größe des Touchpads fällt in Relation zur Gesamtgröße des Laptops reichlich kompakt aus. Dafür bietet die Oberfläche eine gelungene Mischung aus haptischem Feedback und Gleitfähigkeit.

Bei den Anschlüssen gibt es fast nichts zu beantstanden, neben einem 2,5 Gbit/s-Ethernet-Port bietet Lenovo beim Legion Y740 auch einen Thunderbolt-3-Anschluss. Lediglich der fehlende SD-Kartenleser stößt mir sauer auf. Bei einem Gerät, dass sich alleine von den Hardware-Spezifikationen auch fantastisch als Schnitt-Laptop eignen würde, kommt das beinahe einem Sakrileg gleich. Das gleiche Problem plagte übrigens auch das Alienware m15.

Under current rules, once an automaker sells 200,000 electric cars, the value of the tax credit decrease and eventually fades away. So far, this has impacted only two automakers, General Motors and Tesla. However, the HP 14 Laptop fell behind the VivoBook Flip’s Intel HD 615 (51,586) as well as the Intel UHD 620 GPU in the Aspire E 15 (63,817) and the Spin 3 (70,127).

In real-world testing, the HP 14 Laptop averaged 25 frames per second on the Dirt 3 benchmark, stopping short of the 28-fps category average, not to mention the 30-fps playable threshold. Dirt 3 is playable on the Aspire E 15 (56 fps), the Spin 3 (38 fps) and the VivoBook Flip (31 fps).

Battery Life
The HP 14 Laptop’s battery life isn’t horrible, but it could be a lot better. When I continuously surfed the web on the laptop over Wi-Fi at 150 nits of brightness, the battery lasted 6 hours and 12 minutes, which is over an hour shorter than the budget laptop average (7:27). The Spin 3 (6 hours) wasn’t much better, but the VivoBook Flip (7:23) was within range and the Aspire E 15 managed to survive a stellar 8:48.

Armed with a 720p shooter, the HP 14 Laptop misses the mark. The skin on my face looked incredibly blotchy. My black-and-blue flannel appeared mostly black in the image, as it was so dark.This machine stayed pretty cool under pressure. After the HP 14 Laptop streamed a 15-minute 1080p video, the underside measured 85 degrees Fahrenheit, which is well within our 95-degree comfort zone.

The HP 14 Laptop (DF0023CL) is a great budget system, offering solid overall performance, a comfortable keyboard and even a 1080p display. The only downsides are its meh graphics power and its below-average battery life.If you opt for the Acer Aspire E 15 ($329), you can get all-day battery life, a more powerful graphics card and a brighter screen with more real estate, all for a cheaper price.

However, the HP 14 Laptop is a solid all-around budget laptop, especially given the performance and size you get for the price.And there’s been increasing interest from car shoppers. In 2010, just 1,919 EVs were sold in the U.S. In 2018, sales hit 233,411.A 2019 survey, conducted by Consumer Reports and the Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS), shows that 63 percent of prospective car buyers in America are interested in electric vehicles.

Overall, 31 percent would consider one for their next purchase, 27 percent would consider one at some point down the road, and 5 percent say they are definitely planning on buying or leasing one for their next vehicle. This last number would mark a big escalation in electric car purchases in the U.S.

A growing number of consumers may be interested, but most have had limited experience with electric vehicles, despite that some EVs have been on the market for years, including models from Chevrolet, Ford, Honda, Nissan, and Tesla. And many consumers naturally will have questions about how an electric car might fit into their lives.

Der Lenovo Legion Y740 ist ein waschechter Gaming-Laptop im Business-Pelz. Rein äußerlich deutet zwar die Größe des Notebooks darauf hin, dass es sich hier um eine potente Maschine handeln könnte, ansonsten macht das Design einen edlen und vor allem eleganten Eindruck.
Doch unter der Haube entpuppt sich der mobile Rechner als echter Tausendsassa. Mein Testmodell mit der leicht von der Zunge gehenden Bezeichnung „17ICHg-81HH001NGE“ist ausgestattet mit einem i7-8750H, einer RTX 2080 Max-Q, 16 GB DDR4 Arbeitsspeicher, sowie einer Kombination aus 256 GB großen PCIe-SSD und 1 TB HDD. Während die Speicherausstattung für den Preis beinahe dürftig ausfällt, hat Lenovo beim Panel etwas tiefer in die Tasche gegriffen. Der Bildschirm löst zwar „nur“ in Full-HD auf, bietet dafür aber nicht nur eine Bildwiederholungsrate von 144 Hz, sondern auch G-Sync-Unterstützung, die vor allem während des Akkubetriebs seine Stärke ausspielen kann. Doch dazu später mehr.

Reden wir zuerst über den wohl wichtigsten Aspekt eines Gaming-Laptops: seine Spieleleistung. Um diese testen zu können, habe ich in den Spielen wie Far Cry 5 und Hitman 2 die eingebauten Benchmarks genutzt, die Performance aller anderen Titel wurde während des normalen Spielens aufgezeichnet:

Erstaunlicherweise fiel der Leistungsunterschied im Vergleich zum schwächer ausgestatteten Alienware m15 recht gering aus. Das dürfte unter anderem daran liegen, dass die Kühlung des Lenovo Legion Y740 einfach nicht mit der Wärmeentwicklung des verbauten i7-Prozessor mithalten kann. Innerhalb weniger Minuten klettern die Temperaturen der CPU während des Spielens auf über 90 Grad Celsius und machen es sich dort bequem – und das obwohl der Prozessor noch nicht einmal richtig ausgelastet wird. Immer wieder werden die Taktraten des Chips durch das System gedrosselt, um eine Überhitzung zu verhindern.

Währenddessen scheint sich die RTX 2080 Max-Q in den meisten Spielen unterfordert zu fühlen. Kein Wunder – schließlich ist die Desktop-Variante der Grafikkarte für WQHD- und 4K-Gaming ausgelegt. Eine volle Auslastung von 100 Prozent beobachtete ich nur in den seltensten Fällen. Und das, obwohl die Leistungsfähigkeit im Vergleich zur Vollausbau-Version heruntergefahren wurde, um den Stromverbrauch und die Baugröße möglichst gering zu halten. Trotz all dieser Anpassungen scheint hier Leistungspotenzial auf der Strecke zu bleiben.

Ungeachtet dieser Beschwerden liefert der Gaming-Laptop in allen Spielen so hohe Bildraten, dass die Vorzüge des 144-Hz-Panels stets gut zur Geltung kamen. Bewegungen werden sehr flüssig dargestellt, Eingaben werden unglaublich schnell visuell auf dem Bildschirm umgesetzt. Denn obwohl Lenovo ein IPS-Panel im Gaming-Laptop verbaut, fühlen sich die Reaktionszeiten und der Input-Lag angenehm gering an. Bei schnellen Kameradrehungen kann ich zwar immer noch leichte Ghosting-Effekte feststellen, diese sind aber deutlich weniger stark ausgeprägt als beim deutlich günstigeren Medion Erazer X6805.

Eine Sache, die mir am Display des Lenovo Legion Y740 besonders gut gefällt, ist die Größe. Während ich bei Gaming-Laptops mit 15,6-Zoll-Panel immer das Gefühl habe, dass ich mir optische Details entgehen, habe ich hier stets alles im Blick. Vor allem in Battle-Royale-Spielen wie PUBG kann das gerne mal den Unterschied zwischen Leben und Tod bedeuten.

Doch die Größe des Laptops hat auch seine Schattenseiten. In meinem normalen 30-Liter-Rucksack bekam ich den Klopper nicht unter, in meiner kompakten Umhängetasche erst recht nicht. Doch selbst wenn ich eine passende Tasche mein Eigen nennen würde, würde ich mir zweimal überlegen, ob ich den Gaming-Laptop heute unbedingt brauche. Trotz seines schlanken und eleganten Designs, ist der Lenovo Legion Y740 alles andere als ein Leichtgewicht. Rund 2,8 Kilogramm bringt das Spiele-Notebook auf die Waage.

Mit den ersten MacBooks führte Apple im Jahr 2006 eine Neuerung ein – der MagSafe-Anschluss. Der Stecker wird am Rechner magnetisch fixiert und löst sich automatisch bei einer Ruckbewegung – praktisch und sicher. Zunächst gab es diesen in einer T-Form, später führte Apple die abgewinkelte L-Form ein. Technisch unterscheiden sich diese jedoch nicht, sind deshalb auf- und abwärtskompatibel. Kleiner Nachteil bei beiden Varianten: Durch Verschmutzung an Stecker und Anschluss kommt es schon mal zur Fehlfunktion. Bevor man also vorschnell ein Ersatznetzteil in Erwägung zieht, sollte man zuvor die Kontakte vorsichtig säubern.

2012 kam es zu einer grundlegenden Überarbeitung des Konzeptes. Das erste MacBook Pro mit Retina Display bekam den neuen, flacheren MagSafe-2-Anschluss spendiert, gleichfalls auch das MacBook Air (Modell Mitte 2012). Allein das ältere MacBook Pro behielt die erste Version des MagSafe. Achtung: Der neue MagSafe-2-Anschluss (wieder in T-Form) ist leider nicht abwärtskompatibel. Neuere Netzteile können also keine älteren MacBooks aufladen. Positiv: Mittels eines MagSafe-Adapters (circa 10 Euro) sind ältere Netzteile jedoch umgekehrt in der Lage, auch neuere MacBooks aufzuladen.

Über alle Generationen der verschiedenen Mobilrechner (MacBook, MacBook Pro, MacBook Air und MacBook Pro mit Retina Display) verwendete Apple bisher Netzteile mit drei unterschiedlichen Leistungen – 45 W, 60 W und 85 W. Grundsätzlich empfiehlt Apple den Einsatz des jeweiligen, originalen Netzteiles. Eine Übersicht hierzu findet sich auf der Support-Seite des Herstellers. Dies ist jedoch nur die halbe Wahrheit, denn generell können Anwender bedenkenlos auf Netzteile mit einer höheren Leistung zurückgreifen. Ein Beispiel: Ein MacBook Pro mit Retina Display (13 Zoll) verwendet normalerweise ein Netzteil mit 60 W, kann jedoch auch von einem Modell mit 85 W geladen und betrieben werden. Das kleinere Netzteil des MacBook Air mit 45 W ist jedoch ungeeignet.

Tipp: Wer derzeit auf der Suche nach Ersatz für sein MacBook-Air-Netzteil (45 W) ist und demnächst ein Upgrade auf ein MacBook Pro mit Retina Display (60 W und 85 W) in Erwägung zieht, sollte gegeben falls gleich zu einem Netzteil mit höherer Leistung greifen. Dieses kann später als praktisches Zweitgerät für den neuen Rechner dienen – MagSafe-2-Adapter vorausgesetzt.

Natürlich empfiehlt Apple allein den Kauf eines originalen Netzteiles. Mit einem Preis von 79 Euro (im Apple Store) eine kostenintensive Anschaffung. Der Markt bietet indes eine fast unüberschaubare Anzahl von kompatiblen Alternativen – beispielsweise bei Amazon. Diese kosten meist weniger als die Hälfte des Originalpreises. Lohnt sich dies? Ein Blick auf die unterschiedlichen Bewertungen verwirrt. Neben positivem Feedback gibt es gleichfalls einige sehr ernüchternde Produktbewertungen. Reine Glückssache also?
Die Alternativen ähneln dem Original deutlich, nur das Apple-Logo fehlt. Auch die Geräte von iProtect sind da keine Ausnahme.

Aktuell stechen positiv die Netzteile von iProtect heraus – 28 Bewertungen, alle jeweils mit vier oder gar fünf Sternen. Klingt vielversprechend. Die Netzteile gibt’s in allen erdenklichen Ausführungen – mit MagSafe-1-Anschluss (wahlweise mit T- oder L-Form) und auch mit dem neuen MagSafe-2-Anschluss. Jeweils erhältlich in den drei Leistungsstufen (45 W, 60 W und 85 W). Mit Preisen von circa 20 bis 25 Euro sicherlich eine Versuchung wert.

For $399, the HP 14 Laptop offers a solid 8th-Gen Core i3 processor comboed with a clicky keyboard and a decent 1080p display. You’ll have to deal with a relatively short battery life and a middling graphics card, but overall, the HP 14 Laptop is a solid budget laptop for the price.

The HP 14 Laptop that I tested costs $399 and comes outfitted with an Intel Core i3-8130U processor, 4GB of RAM, a 128GB SSD and an Intel UHD 620 GPU. Amazon sells another version that runs for $379 ($331 on sale) and drops you to an Intel Pentium Silver N5000 processor and an Intel GMA 3150 GPU.

Design
This machine doesn’t have any personality on the outside, as its plastic hood is painted a generic silver, accompanied by a glossy HP logo stamped in the center. If the logo weren’t there, this laptop would be indistinguishable from the competition.

However, the interior of the HP 14 Laptop has some semblance of style. The silver hinge complements the black, faux-aluminum deck. This machine features a backlit-keyboard with stylish font on its keys as well as a speaker vent just above the keyboard. To top it all off, the panel sports slim bezels.

The HP 14 Laptop is the lightest machine among the competition, weighing 3.1 pounds, and it’s also nearly the slimmest, measuring 12.8 x 8.9 x 0.8 inches. The Acer Spin 3 (3.8 pounds, 13.2 x 9.1 x 0.8 inches) and the Asus VivoBook Flip 14 (3.2 pounds, 12.9 x 8.9 x 0.6 inches) are pretty light and thin in their own regard. But the 15-inch Acer Aspire E 15 (5 pounds, 15 x 10.2 x 1.2 inches) is a thick boy.

On the left side, you’ll find a security lock slot, one USB Type-C port and an SD card slot, while the right side features the power jack, an RJ45 Ethernet port, an HDMI 1.4 port, two USB 3.1 ports and a headphone jack.

While the HP 14 Laptop’s 14-inch display isn’t very bright or colorful, its glossy screen and leveled-out contrast make the viewing experience better than what your average budget laptop provides. Not to mention, it boasts a 1920 x 1080 resolution.

In the trailer for Taken 3 -- I mean, Angel Has Fallen -- I could see every strand of hair in Nick Nolte’s white beard. The orangish explosions set in the grassy field were dull, and the panel itself was so dim that I couldn’t see the surroundings in the forest. However, the screen didn’t look washed out, meaning it captured whites quite well.

At 199 nits of brightness, the HP 14 Laptop’s display isn’t too far off of the category average (205 nits), but the Aspire E 15 (227 nits), Spin 3 (226 nits) and VivoBook Flip (221 nits) all did much better.

Keyboard and Touchpad
The HP 14 Laptop’s keyboard is surprisingly clicky and pleasant to type on; it even has backlighting, which is rare for a budget laptop. The font on the keys is reminiscent of HP’s premium Spectre x360 line.

Given its low price tag for a basic Windows laptop, it’s no wonder that the Aspire 5 Slim is the most popular notebook on sale through Amazon Business. To drop its price point to near Chromebook levels, Acer eschews Intel’s Core processors for an AMD Ryzen 3 chip and provides minimal RAM (4GB) and storage (128GB SSD). You do get a full HD 15.6-inch display at least, but the Slim defaults to Windows 10 in S mode, which limits you to apps from the Microsoft Store and the Edge browser in the name of extending your computing time between charges. (You can switch to the full version of Windows 10 for free, however.)

A solid, traditional clamshell 13.3-inch laptop, the X390 offers the ThinkPad features business buyers have depended on for years: great keyboard, TrackPoint center button, all-day battery life, and an array of security options. In her review, ZDNet’s Sandra Vogel concludes that the X390 is "a solidly built small-format laptop that frequent travelers should find easy to carry."

While not as cheap as some of its earlier notebooks, Chuwi’s AeroBook still comes in well under the price of most Windows laptops but isn’t shy about its MacBook-inspired design. With its 13.3-inch form factor and 256GB solid-state drive, the AeroBook is more about lightweight on-the-go productivity than powerhouse performance, especially given its outdated Intel Core m3-6Y30 processor. Nonetheless, ZDNet’s Alun Taylor says that the AeroBook is "is a great looker, well made, well-specified, and performs faultlessly."

Chromebooks haven’t been nearly as successful in disrupting the business market as they have in education, but they still offer an affordable alternative for those who mostly make use of web-based applications rather than traditional Windows desktop software. HP keeps the price down on its Chromebook 14A by using a plastic chassis and including a low-res display and a mere 20GB of built-in storage, but compensates with ruggedized construction, solid keyboard, and 9-hour battery life. As Vogel points out in her review, "it does the job it’s meant to do very well — at an attractive price."

Microsoft hasn’t always succeeded with its forays into hardware (remember the Zune?), but it’s certainly hit with its Surface brand. While the Surface Pro tablet can be used as a convertible device with the addition of a type cover, the company realized that a dedicated notebook could appeal to business customers as well. Now on its second iteration, the Surface Laptop 2 gets a speed bump with eight-generation Intel Core processors and double the RAM of its predecessor. It retains the 13.5-inch touchscreen display and manages to weigh just 2.8 pounds.

Not every business notebook is used in a coworking space or on a coast-to-coast flight. Dell’s Latitude 5420 is built for harsher conditions, able to withstand knocks, drops, and bumps thanks to its magnesium alloy case, eight bumpers, and water and dust resistance (meeting MIL-STD 810G and IP52 durability standards). You pay for that tough construction rather than robust specs -- the base model includes an older Core i3 processor -- though you do get a full HD 14-inch screen and an additional bay for a second battery. While our review refers to the 5420 as "a competent rugged laptop," sometimes that’s just what you need to get the job done.

If you want to go upscale with a business-oriented Chromebook instead of the more budget-conscious HP Chromebook 14A, Acer’s convertible notebook may be your best bet. It’s packed with a 13.5-inch 2,256x1,504 touchscreen display, Intel Core i3 processor, 8GB of RAM and a 64GB solid-state drive. The Spin 13 even includes a stylus to use to write or draw when you choose to be in tablet mode. Even if it’s well above the price of most Chromebooks, our review argues that "it’s hard to deny the sheer value for money offered by devices such as the Spin 13."

A year ago, ZDNet experts were debating whether Apple was still worried about professional users of its Mac computers, but the latest 15-inch MacBook Pro update should assuage some concerns about that. By upgrading to ninth-generation Intel Core processors -- including eight-core Core i9 CPUs -- and more powerful AMD Radeon Pro graphics, Apple is giving the creative professionals who support the brand a major performance boost. There’s a hefty price to pay, but then again, that’s always the case with Apple. Nun solltet ihr mit einem nicht leitenden Stab (Bspw. Zahnstocher) den Lüfter fixieren.
Mit der anderen Hand solltet ihr mit einem Druckluft Spray oder Air-Blower den Staub wegblasen.
Hinweis Druckluft Spray: Viele Druckluft Sprays verlieren Flüssigkeit, wenn sie zu schräg gehalten werden. Ihr solltet die Dose also zuvor austesten, bevor ihr sie über eure elektronischen Gerätschaften haltet.

Wenn euer Laptop nicht über den Luxus einer leicht zugänglichen Wartungsklappe verfügt, ist das aber nicht das Ende der Welt. Normalerweise kann man den Lüfter zwischen den Lüftungsschlitzen mit einer Taschenlampe erkennen.
Mit einem etwas dünneren Stab kann man so auch hier den Lüfter festhalten und geht dann ganz ähnlich vor, wie in der oben beschriebenen Anleitung. Den Staub müsst ihr dann versuchen mit der Druckluft durch die Luftüngschlitze zu befördern.

shutterstock_131163344In vielen Foren liest man die Empfehlung, einfach mit dem Staubsauger über die Lüftungsschlitze zu fahren. Die meisten Bodenstaubsauger haben aber selbst auf der niedrigsten Saugstufe so viel Kraft, dass sich bei einem Ansaugen schnell statische Elektrizität aufbauen kann, die wiederrum den elektischen Bauteilen schaden können.
Der Staubsauger-Weg scheint somit gerade für Laptops ohne einfachen Zugang zum Lüfter, die einfachere Variante zu sein, sollte aber mit äußerster Vorsicht genossen werden.

Der Akku im iPhone, iPad und iPod touch gehört zu den Verschleißteilen. Grundsätzlich verschlechtert sich die Leistung der Batterie mit jedem Ladezyklus. Doch wie bestimmen wir die aktuelle Kapazität des Stromspenders und lesen die Anzahl der Ladezyklen aus?

Ein Ladezyklus entspricht einer vollständigen Ladung des Akkus, also von 0 auf 100 Prozent der Batteriekapazität. Dies bedeutet aber nicht, dass jeder Ladevorgang einem Ladyzyklus gleichzusetzen ist. Fällt der Wert deutlich unter 80 Prozent, ist ein baldiger Austausch des Akkus empfehlenswert. Kritisch: Apple selbst bietet keine Möglichkeit in iOS 7 oder früheren Versionen die Anzahl der Ladyzyklen und die gegenwärtige Ladekapazität anzuzeigen – im Gegensatz zu OS X am Mac. Mit dem folgenden Tipp umgehen wir diese Beschränkung und erfahren mehr über den Gesundheitszustand unseres iPhone-Akkus.
Behilflich ist ein kleine, kostenlose Software: iBackupBot – ein multifunktionaler Backup-Manager für Mac OS X und Windows. Zunächst laden wir uns die aktuelle Version für unser Betriebssystem herunter.

Stoßt ihr auf Online-Dienste wie Schöner Fernsehen, die euch einen kostenlosen RTL-Live-Stream ermöglichen sollen, solltet ihr vorsichtig sein. Diese Dienste sind illegal, ihr könntet im schlimmsten Fall sogar eine Abmahnung für die RTL-Stream-Alternative erhalten. Auch Fernsehen über den MediaPlayer Acestream ist illegal. Außerdem versteckt sich hinter kostenlosen Streaming-Angeboten nicht selten Schadsoftware in Form von Trojanern oder Viren. Wir können deswegen davon nur ganz entschieden abraten.

Idealerweise hat euer Laptop eine leicht zugängliche Wartungsklappe, die häufig nur mit wenigen oder gar nur einer Schraube verschlossen sind. Durch diese könnt ihr gewöhnlicherweise auch den Arbeitsspeicher und die Festplatte austauschen und den Lüfter erreichen. Um den Laptop von allem Staub und Dreck zu befreien, geht ihr wie folgt vor:

Wie Acer während der diesjährigen IFA bekanntgab, sollen Kunden des Acer Predator Triton 500 ihren 15,6-Zoll-Laptop mit einem pfeilschnellen 300-Hz-Dislay ausstatten können – das wäre eine echte Neuerung im Gaming-Laptop-Bereich. Bislang werden in den schnellsten Modellen maximal Panels mit einer Bildwiederholfrequenz von 240 Hz verbaut.

Acer nutzt ein IPS-Panel, das in Full-HD auflöst, die Reaktionszeit liegt bei 3 ms. Wem 300 Hz zu viel des Guten sind, kann weiterhin auf die Version mit 144-Hz-Display zurückgreifen. Ein Modell mit 17-Zoll-Display ist bislang nicht geplant. Alle Varianten des Acer Triton 500 besitzen einen 15,6 Zoll großen Bildschirm.

Erste Informationen zum Preis und zum Verkaufsstart gab Acer bereits vor der IFA-Pressekonferenz bekannt: Die 300-Hz-Variante des Acer Predator Triton 500 soll ab dem vierten Quartal 2019 erhältlich sein. Der UVP liegt bei 2.599 Euro. Welche Hardware das 300-Hz-Display für diesen Preis befeuern wird, gab das Unternehmen aber nicht bekannt. Die Ausstattung dürfte jedoch im High-End-Bereich angesiedelt sein.

Ob es sich wirklich lohnt einen Gaming-Laptop mit einem 300-Hz-Panel zu kaufen, muss sich noch zeigen. Während des ersten Hands-Ons auf der Messe konnte ich zwar während des Desktop-Betriebs und in Overwatch einen leichten Unterschied zwischen einem 144-Hz-Bildschirm und der 300-Hz-Variante feststellen, ein echter „Wow“-Effekt wie beim Umstieg von 60 auf 144 Hz blieb jedoch aus.
