Einen ähnlichen Vorfall gab es am 16. Mai bei Düsseldorf. Während des Reisefluges eines Airbus A319 einer nicht genannten Fluggesellschaft kam es im hinteren Teil der Kabine zu einem Brand einer Powerbank, die sich in der Jacke eines Passagiers befand, wie die Bundesstelle für Flugunfalluntersuchung in einem Bericht Ende Juli festhält. «Nach Angaben der Besatzung traten einzelne Stichflammen auf», heißt es in dem Bericht. Die Kabinenbesatzung löschte den Brand und die Piloten erklärten keine Luftnotlage.

Die Zahl solcher Zwischenfälle ist mit der Verbreitung leistungsfähiger Lithium-Batterien in mobilen Geräten und als externe Reserveakkus in die Höhe gegangen, wie Zahlen der FAA zeigen. Die US-Luftfahrtbehörde dokumentiert Vorfälle, bei denen Lithium-Batterien oder von Lithium-Batterien betriebene Geräte Feuer fingen, Rauch ausstießen, extrem heiß wurden oder explodierten, und zwar an Bord von Passagier- oder Frachtfliegern oder an Flughäfen. Schwankte die Zahl solcher Zwischenfälle in den Jahren 2011 bis 2014 noch zwischen sieben und neun pro Jahr, waren es 2015 schon 16 und 2016 bereits 31.

Für das Jahr 2017 verzeichnete die FAA 46 Lithium-Batterien-Zwischenfälle, seitdem scheint der steile Anstieg aber gestoppt. 2018 standen mit 49 nur leicht mehr zu Buche als im Vorjahr. 2019 dokumentierte die Behörde bis zum 22. Mai noch 19 solcher Vorfälle. In den beiden Vorjahren waren es zu diesem Zeitpunkt des Jahres 18 gewesen (2017) beziehungsweise 23 (2018). Doch wie kommt es zu den Bränden, Explosionen und Co?

Mehr als 1000 Grad heiß
In Passagierfliegern sind Geräte mit Lithium-Batterien wie etwa elektronische Zigaretten oder Tablets nur im Handgepäck erlaubt. In der Kabine ist die größte Gefahr dann, dass kleinere Geräte wie Smartphones, E-Zigaretten oder Powerbanks zwischen die Sitze rutschen. Verstellt der Passagier dann den Sitz, kann der Akku beschädigt werden. Gerade bei elektrisch verstellbaren Sitzen in der Business Class hat der Reisende kaum eine Chance, den Widerstand durch die Batterie wahrzunehmen. Einmal eingeklemmt und beschädigt, können chemische Reaktionen in der Batterie dafür sorgen, dass sich diese schnell auf mehr als 1000 Grad erhitzen und ein Feuer auslösen.


Die meisten Fluglinien weisen ihre Passagiere heute auf solche Gefahren nicht mehr nur in den Handgepäckbestimmungen hin. «Darüber hinaus machen unsere Purser an Bord zu diesem Thema deutsche und englische Ansagen beziehungsweise es ist ein Teil des Sicherheitsvideos», erklärt ein Lufthansa-Sprecher. «Hier werden die Gäste darauf aufmerksam gemacht, dass sie sich unbedingt bei der Kabinenbesatzung melden sollen, sofern ein elektronisches Gerät während des Aufenthalts an Bord beschädigt sein sollte, heiß wird oder zu rauchen beginnt.» Auch wenn ein Gerät in einen unzugänglichen Bereich des Sitzes falle, seien die Reisenden angehalten, dies zu melden.

Für die Crews gilt: «Es gibt ein spezielles Emergency Training der Kabinenbesatzung zu diesem Thema», so der Lufthansa-Sprecher auf die Frage nach der Vorbereitung. Dies finde für jeden Kabinenmitarbeiter einmal pro Jahr im Rahmen eines zwei Tage dauernden Notfalltrainings statt, zu dem auch Feuerlöschübungen gehörten.

Laptop aus dem Flieger geworfen
Zu den Hilfsmitteln im Umgang mit beschädigten Batterien gehören neben Feuerlöschern auch spezielle hitzebeständige Sicherheitstaschen, sogenannte Containment Bags, mit dazugehörigem Handschuh. Darein können Flugbegleiterinnen Akkus verfrachten, die noch nicht brennen oder die schon gelöscht sind.

Manchmal gehen Kabinencrews aber auch robuster vor, wenn Brandgefahr droht. So geschehen Anfang Mai auf Flug 5062 der amerikanischen Regionalfluggesellschaft PSA Airlines von Sarasota nach Charlotte. «Der Laptop eines Passagiers begann an Bord Anzeichen von gefährlicher Hitzeentwicklung auszusenden, bevor der Pushback begann», notiert die FAA. «Der Laptop wurde von einem Flugbegleiter aus dem Flugzeug geworfen, wo das Rampenpersonal einen Feuerlöscher nutzte, damit der Laptop nicht Feuer fing.»

Der kürzlich veröffentlichte Bericht des Unternehmens konzentriert sich hauptsächlich auf die erforderlichen Lösungen für die Anwender. Der 17500 Zylindrischer Lithium-Ionen-Akku-marktbericht konzentriert sich auf die Entwicklung dieses Marktes in Bezug auf Wert und Volumen im Prognosezeitraum. Die Informationen werden in Form von Grafiken und Tabellen hervorgehoben, um sich ändernde Markttrends genauer zu verstehen. Der Bericht besteht aus Faktoren und Herausforderungen, gefolgt von einer vollständigen Analyse der wichtigsten Marktteilnehmer. Der Markt wird bis zum Jahr 2026 voraussichtlich USD XX Mio. mit einer CAGR von XX% erreichen.

Für den nötigen Antrieb sorgt ein Microchip ATiny1614, der mit einer Taktfrequenz von 20 Megahertz (MHz) werkelt. Eine mickrig erscheinende Leistung – im Vergleich zu den aktuell in Laptops verbauten Prozessoren: Intels Oberklasse-Modell Core i9-8950HK beispielsweise arbeitet mit einem Basistakt von 2,9 Gigahertz. Die Leistung des ATiny1614 lieferten Chips schon Anfang der 1990er-Jahren – Intels populäre 386er-Prozessoren etwa. Alles andere als angestaubt ist dagegen die verwendete Display-Technik: Der OLED-Bildschirm bildet 128x64 Pixel ab. Damit sich der Winzling auch unterwegs nutzen lässt, hat Klinger einen Akku mit einer Leistung von 300 Milliamperestunden (mAh) verbaut, der sich über einen seitlich angebrachten Micro-USB-Anschluss laden lässt.

Auch die Steuerung des Mini-Laptops ist außergewöhnlich. Eine funktionstüchtige Tastatur ist angesichts der Abmessungen natürlich nicht zu erwarten. Stattdessen steuert Klinger das Laptöpchen über einen Trackpoint, der mittig auf dem Gerät angebracht ist. Die Rotfärbung des Eingabeknopfes ist eine von vielen Reminiszenzen an IBMs legendäre ThinkPad-Reihe. Daran angelehnt hat Klinger auch den Namen des Winzlings: ThinkTiny. Wer Interesse an dem Laptop hat: Der Schöpfer hat im Netz eine Bauanleitung sowie den Software-Code veröffentlicht. Kaufen lässt sich der ThinkTiny hingegen nicht – nach einem Bericht von gizmodo.com will Klinger die Geräte nicht in Serie produzieren. Sicherlich nicht nur aufgrund möglicher Klagen des jetzigen Rechteinhabers Lenovo – denn der Bau des kleinen Rechners ist zweifellos mit großem Aufwand verbunden.

Einen ersten Einblick gab Intel bereits auf der Computex 2019 in Taipeh, jetzt stellt der weltgrößte Prozessor-Hersteller das gesamte Sortiment seiner neuen Ice-Lake-U- und Ice-Lake-Y-CPUs für Notebooks vor. Und das sind komplett runderneuerte Prozessoren, wie der Blick auf die technischen Daten zeigt. In einem Punkt hinkt Intel dem Kontrahenten AMD aber weiter hinterher.

Während Intel seine neuen Ice-Lake-CPUs nun endlich mit 10-Nanometer-Strukturen fertigt, verwendet AMD bei seinen Ryzen-3000er-Prozessoren Schaltungen und Leiterbahnen mit noch feineren 7 Nanometern. Dennoch: Im Vergleich zu den 14-Nanometern-CPUs der „Coffee-Lake“-Reihe darf Intel für ein höheres Arbeitstempo nun auf gleicher Chipfläche mehr Schaltungen verbauen. Die rücken auch enger zusammen, sodass sich die Schaltwege verkürzen, was wiederum das Arbeitstempo erhöhen und den Energieverbrauch senken soll. Letzteres ist für Notebooks immens wichtig, schließlich soll jedes eingesparte Watt die Akkulaufzeit verlängern.

Intel Ice Lake: U- und Y-Modelle
Wie bei den älteren Prozessor-Generationen üblich, unterteilt Intel auch die neuen Ice-Lake-Prozessoren in U- und Y-Modelle (siehe Übersicht unten). Die stärkeren U-Recheneinheiten kommen vorwiegend in potenteren Notebooks zum Einsatz, während Hersteller die sparsameren Y-Prozessoren in sehr dünne Laptops und vielseitige Convertibles einpflanzen. Weiterer Vorteil der Y-Prozessoren: Sie kommen in der Regel ohne aktive Kühlung per Lüfter aus, Notebooks mit Y-CPUs arbeiten daher geräuschlos – aber eben nicht so schnell wie Modelle mit Ice-Lake-U-Prozessoren.

Bei acht der elf vorgestellten Ice-Lake-Prozessoren übernimmt Intels starke Grafikeinheit Iris Plus die Berechnung der Bildwiedergabe auf den Notebook-Displays. Die haben für ein höheres Tempo mehr Recheneinheiten als UHD-Chips an Bord und arbeiten mit den Standards DisplayPort 1.4 und HDMI 2.0 zusammen. Vorteil: So lassen sich beispielsweise für eine größere Arbeitsfläche zwei 4K-Displays ans Notebook klemmen.

Intel Ice Lake: DDR5, Wifi 6 und Thunderbolt 3
Ebenfalls klasse: Ice-Lake-Prozessoren arbeiten nun mit schnellem Arbeitsspeicher des Typs DDR5 zusammen – das sorgt ebenfalls für höheres Tempo. Mit mehr Geschwindigkeit soll es auch drahtlos ins Netz gehen: Intel hat in den Ice-Lake-Prozessoren ein Wifi-6-Modul eingebaut. Um das volle Tempo zu nutzen, muss zu Hause ein WLAN-ax-Router vorhanden sein. Auch gut: Je nach Konfiguration des Herstellers lassen sich Notebooks mit bis zu vier Thunderbolt-3-Anschlüssen ausstatten. Per Thunderbolt 3 übertragen Sie Daten, Bild- und Netzwerksignale, auch den Akku laden Sie darüber. Vorteil: Es ist nur noch ein Steckertyp nötig – Thunderbolt 3 hat die gleiche Form wie USB C.

Am Unabhängigkeitstag der Vereinigten Staaten von Amerika (4. Juli) startete Virgin-Atlantic-Flug VS 138 vom Flughafen New York JFK Richtung London Heathrow. Doch noch bevor der Airbus A330-300 seine Reiseflughöhe erreichte, brach ein Feuer an einem Sitze in der Kabine aus. Obwohl es der Crew gelang, die Flammen zu löschen, entschieden sich die Piloten für eine außerplanmäßige Landung in Boston, wo die Feuerwehr schon wartete. Die Polizei teilte danach mit, dass laut einer vorläufigen Untersuchung ein externer Akku zum Aufladen eines Smartphones den Sitz in Brand gesetzt hätte.

Das 15,6-Zoll-Display des HP 15-db1002ng bewerten wir allgemein als gut. Auch für unter 500 Euro findet man eine deutlich bessere Bildqualität, doch letztendlich gibt die gute Maximalhelligkeit des TN-LC-Panels im HP-Notebook den Ausschlag: 262 Candela pro Quadratmeter sind hervorragend. Zu beachten ist jedoch, dass Sie diese Maximalhelligkeit nur erreichen, wenn das Notebook an der Steckdose hängt. Bei Akkubetrieb schaltet das System automatisch um, und der Maximalwert der Helligkeit wird auf 180 cd/m² begrenzt. Ändern können Sie das nur in den Treiber-Einstellungen.

Die Auflösung des matten Displays ohne Touchscreen-Funktion liegt bei Full HD (1.920 mal 1.080 Pixel), die Pixeldichte ist daher angemessen. Den Schachbrett-Kontrast messen wir mit 149:1, das ist ein akzeptabler Durchschnittswert. In der Preisklasse unter 500 Euro findet man meist keine allzu üppige Darstellung der Farbräume, 65 Prozent Standard-RGB sind hier meist üblich. Das Display des HP 15-db1002ng liegt mit 61 Prozent sRGB-Abdeckung noch darunter, groß ist der Unterschied aber nicht. Generell ist das für Office- und Multimedia-Anwendungen akzeptabel. Für Grafikbearbeitung eher nicht. Letztendlich sind wir mit dem LC-Panel zufrieden, die Bildqualität ist ausgewogen.

HPs Einsteiger-Gehäuse kommt mit der Standard-Tastatur, die wir schon öfters zu Gesicht bekamen. So ist das Tippgefühl bei der Arbeit mit dem HP 15-db1002ng in Ordnung, aber Geschmackssache. Die raue Oberfläche der Tasten verhindert ein Abrutschen und die Tasten sind gut angeordnet. Der Hubweg ist gering aber zufriedenstellend, der Gegendruck gut. Optisch wirkt die Tastatur so wenig hochwertig wie der Rest des Gehäuses und bei der Benutzung ist ein Klappern der Tasten hörbar.

Der Mausersatz ist gut. Man bleibt teils ein wenig mit den Fingern am Touchpad kleben, aber effektiv gibt es an der Bedienung nichts auszusetzen. Separate Maustasten sind vorhanden. Die untere Kante des Gehäuses, auf der die Handballen liegen, ist etwas rau. Und weil sich hier zwei Plastikelemente treffen, bleibt ein Spalt und die Kante ist scharf– aber noch akzeptabel. Auch unter Volllast des Systems bleiben die Lüfter leise. Das Display lässt sich problemlos ohne Festhalten der Unterseite öffnen. Insgesamt bleibt der Eindruck von billiger Verarbeitung, doch die Ergonomie ist befriedigend.

Eine der Verbesserungen der AMD-Mobilprozessoren der Ryzen-3000-Baureihe ist die optimierte Energieeffizienz. Davon profitiert auch das HP 15-db1002ng. Dessen Akkulaufzeit ist zwar immer noch nicht wirklich beeindruckend, doch zumindest bedeutend besser als bei vorherigen Geräten mit AMD-Prozessor. Im Video-Playback hält der 42-Wattstunden-Akku gemessene 05:37 Stunden durch, bei simulierter Arbeitslast 04:02 Stunden. Das ist akzeptabel. Als 15,6-Zoll-Gerät und mit dem dicken Einsteiger-Gehäuse von HP ist das Notebook insgesamt etwas sperrig und mit 2,0 Kilogramm recht schwer. Auch darunter leidet die Mobilitätswertung. Letztendlich geben wir die Note „befriedigend“.

Von außen sieht man das dem Notebook nicht an, HP hat die Top-Hardware nämlich in sein „billiges“ Einsteiger-Gehäuse gepackt. Sowohl optisch als auch haptisch macht das 15-db1002ng den Eindruck eines Plastik-Klotzes – kein Aluminium oder andere wertigere Materialien in Sicht. Grundsätzlich ist das Gerät zwar stabil, doch die eine oder andere knackende Nahtstelle bemerkten wir im Test. Volle 144 FPS werdet ihr zwar nur bei Esports-Spielen wie Fortnite, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Rocket League und Co. erreichen, doch auch beim Arbeiten mit normalen Office-Programmen oder beim Surfen im Internet sorgen die 144 Hz für ein fantastisches Nutzererlebnis.

Mit sich rumschleppen will man dieses Hardware-Ungetüm sowieso nicht. Immerhin kommt der Alienware Area 51m CTO auf ein Gesamtgewicht von 3,87 Kilogramm. Schon allein wenn ich diese Zahl sehe, fängt mein Rücken an zu schmerzen.Dafür hält der Alienware Area 51m CTO aber mehr Leistung bereit als jeder andere Laptop. Der i9-9900K ist eigentlich ein Desktop-Prozessor und Intels aktuelles Flaggschiff im Gaming-Segment. Dieser kann dank offenem Multiplikator sogar übertaktet werden. Das Gleiche gilt für die Grafikkarte. Statt einer RTX 2080 im Max-Q-Design verbaut Alienware eine reguläre RTX 2080 mit 8 GB Videospeicher, mit der ihr zu jeder Zeit das 17,3 Zoll große Full-HD-IPS-Display mit einer Bildwiederholungsrate von 144 Hz ausreizen könnt. Wer übrigens gerne ein Panel mit G-Sync-Unterstützung hätte, kann es sich im Konfigurator für einen Aufpreis von 100 Euro dazubuchen. Der Basispreis des Gerätes liegt übrigens bei saftigen 3.999 Euro*.

In der Preisklasse eine absolute Seltenheit: die verbaute, 128 GB große PCIe-SSD. Gleichzeitig ist im Laptop aber auch noch eine 1 TB große HDD verbaut worden, auf der ihr massig Spiele, Videos, Fotos oder Dokumente unterkriegt. Die Umdrehungsgeschwindigkeit der Platte fällt mit 7.200 U/min zudem angenehm hoch aus.Auch bei den zur Verfügung stehenden Anschlüssen gibt sich HP keine Blöße. Zwei normale USB-Typ-A-Ports, ein Typ-C-Port, HDMI-Ausgang, Combo-Jack, und sogar einen SD-Karten-Slot findet man am Gaming-Laptop.

Erste Federn muss das Notebook bei der Ausstattung des Arbeitsspeichers lassen. Auch wenn die Geschwindigkeit des verbauten 8-GB-Riegels mit 2.666 MHz angenehm flott für einen Laptop ausfällt, könnte sich die geringe Menge an RAM schon bald als Problem entpuppen. RAM-hungrige Spiele wie Battlefield V und PUBG krallen sich gerne mal 5-6 GB des schnellen Speichers und auch Chrome bedient sich gerne mal an massig Arbeitsspeicher. Ein Glück verfügt der HP Gaming Pavilion 15 aber nicht nur über einen weiteren freien RAM-Slot, sondern auch über eine Wartungsklappe, über den ihr die entsprechende Stelle einfach erreichen könnt.

Um den Preis des cx0402ng-Modells möglichst gering zu halten, verzichtet HP auf die Installation eines Betriebssystems und das Beilegen einer entsprechenden Lizenz. Um einen Windows-Schlüssel und die entsprechende Installation müsst ihr euch also selber kümmern.Auch die Kapazität des Akkus fällt mit 52,5 Wh eher genügsam aus. Einen kompletten Arbeitstag übersteht man damit nicht. Unter Volllast macht der Laptop bereits nach einer knappen Stunde schlapp. Das ist zwar schade, diese Eigenschaft teilt sich der HP Gaming Pavilion aber mit den meisten Gaming-Laptops. Positiv hervorzuheben ist noch das recht moderate Gewicht von knapp 2,4 Kilogramm.

Fazit: Für 639 Euro bietet der HP Gaming Pavilion 15-cx0402ng* eine erstaunlich potente Hardware-Ausstattung, die einen guten Einstieg in die Welt der Gaming-Laptops bietet. Die größten Schwachpunkte sind das fehlende Betriebssystem und die knapp bemessene Menge an Arbeitsspeicher.

Das Basis-Modell des Razer Blade 15 (2019) überzeugt vor allem durch seine fantastische Verarbeitungsqualität, seinem geringem Gewicht und seine lange Akkulaufzeit im Alltagsbetrieb. Doch auch bei der restlichen Hardware des Gaming-Laptops hat Razer nicht gespart:

Mit dem Core i7-9750H kommt Intels neuester mobiler Sechskerner zum Einsatz, der im Zusammenspiel mit der RTX 2060 das 15,6 Zoll große 144-Hz-Display befeuert. Da dieses „nur“ in Full-HD auflöst, kann die hohe Bildwiederholungsrate des Displays in einigen Spielen ausgereizt werden. Selbst auf den höchsten Einstellungen solltet ihr keinerlei Probleme bei aktuellen Spielen bemerken – dafür reicht die Hardware jetzt und wahrscheinlich auch die nächsten drei Jahre locker aus. Wer will, kann den Laptop auch via DisplayPort oder HDMI an einen WQHD-Monitor anschließen. Auch für diesen Anwendungsfall sollte die Grafikkarte genug Leistung liefern – 144 FPS werdet ihr dann jedoch nur noch in den seltesten Fällen erreichen.

Die Zeit zum Hochfahren des Laptops, das Starten von Programmen und die Ladezeiten in Spielen fallen dank der verbauten 512 GB PCIe-SSD sehr flott aus. Eine zweite SSD oder eine 2,5-Zoll- oder M.2-HDD lässt sich beim Razer Blade 15 (2019) übrigens auch nachrüsten. Wer mehr Speicher haben will, muss nur auf der Unterseite des Laptops ein paar Schrauben lösen, die Abdeckung abnehmen und hat dann Zugriff auf Massen- und Arbeitsspeicher.

Das reicht dicke für allerlei Anwendungen und Spiele.Im Gegensatz zum HP Gaming Pavilion 15-cx0402ng könnt ihr beim Razer Blade (2019) nach dem Einschalten direkt durchstarten – Windows 10 Home 64-bit ist bereits vorinstalliert und eingerichtet. Bei einem aktuellen Verkaufspreis von 2.139 Euro* kann man das jedoch auch erwarten.

Dank des geringen Gewichts und des verhältnismäßig großen Akkus, der immerhin eine Kapazität von 80 Wh aufweist, ist das Razer Blade (2019) auch ein guter Begleiter im Alltag. Bei leichter Nutzung, wie zum Beispiel surfen oder Office-Programme bedienen, hält der Akku zwar nicht durchgehend einen 8 stündigen Arbeitstag durch, 5-6 Stunden sind aber in den meisten Fällen drin. Wer hingegen unterwegs zocken will, der hat auch mit dem Razer Blade 15 nur ein kurzes Vergnügen. In diesem Fall geht dem Gerät nach einer knappen Stunde der Saft aus. Bei solchen Hardware-Spezifikationen ist das aber nicht verwunderlich. Fast vergessen: Thunderbolt 3 ist auch mit an Bord, dafür hat sich Razer aber den SD-Karten-Slot geklemmt. Fotografen und Kameraleute sollten in diesem Fall also lieber den passenden Adapter zur Hand haben.

The Power usage column informs you whether an app is on the low or high side of drawing power from your battery. You’ll find it corresponds closely to CPU and memory usage, but it’s still useful to see Windows 10’s estimate of an app’s power consumption in words.For the Power usage trend column, you’ll need to wait a couple of minutes for it to populate. It shows how much power an app or process has used over the past 2 minutes.

For an app consuming too much of your battery’s power, you can select it in Task Manager and then hit the End Task button in the lower-right corner to close it. For a longer trend line, go to Settings > System > Battery and click See which apps are affecting your battery life. Try these simple troubleshooting techniques and fixes first to save yourself money and frustration.We are currently reviewing the brand-new Dell XPS 15 7590 and the Lenovo ThinkPad P1 2019, which is almost identical to the multimedia laptop ThinkPad X1 Extreme. We want to share our initial impressions and measurements of the screens. Very good: Both 1080p screens are very bright and show accurate colors.
It is an interesting battle in the segment of 15.6-inch multimedia laptops. HP does not offer a successor for its EliteBook 1050 G1, so we are primarily interested in the comparison between the Dell XPS 15 7590 and the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Extreme 2019 (or their workstation counterparts Dell Precision 5540 and ThinkPad P1 Gen2, respectively).

We are currently reviewing the new XPS 15 7590 and the ThinkPad P1 2019, both equipped with a matte 1080p screen. It is the default screen option on the XPS 15, but it is an optional 500 Nits HDR screen on the P1 2019. The following table summarizes the specs of the models, but we will also review other SKUs soon.

The cases of the two models have not changed, but a direct comparison is still interesting. The XPS 15 7590 has a smaller footprint, while the ThinkPad P1 2019 is about 200 grams lighter, despite the additional dedicated graphics card. The build quality/stability is great on both machines. The Lenovo looks a bit more restrained with its dark design, the Dell is a bit more noble with its silver lid. However, this is obviously a matter of taste.

Both review units are equipped with matte 1080p screens. The Dell XPS 15 7590 uses a panel from Sharp, while the Lenovo ThinkPad P1 2019 is equipped with a panel from Innolux (even though Lenovo uses multiple vendors for their displays). Both panels are supposed to reach 500 nits; Dell uses this panel by default, Lenovo only offers it as an option (default is a 300 nits panel).

Both screens are very good subjectively and we believe they will be very popular among customers. The Full-HD resolution is still sufficient for many usage scenarios and there are some positive aspects like the lack of scaling issues, matte surfaces, and improved power consumption/battery life compared to 4K or even OLED alternatives.

The measurements of both models are also very good: Both manage average luminance results above 500 nits in combination with high contrast ratios. However, the panel in the XPS 15 has the slight edge in terms of maximum luminance and color gamut. There is also a major difference when we look at the brightness levels. While the ThinkPad P1 2019 reduces the luminance very quickly (150 nits @ 80%), the brightness reduction is more linear on the XPS 15 (150 nits @ 25%). This brings us to one problem of the XPS 15 though, because there is PWM flickering at a brightness of 25% or lower. The frequency is comparatively high at 1020 Hz, but you will often use the affected brightness levels in darker environments, so the flickering might be an issue over longer periods. The ThinkPad P1 also has another advantage in darker environments thanks to its lower minimum luminance (10 vs. 28.2 nits), which is noticeable.

We can only give you our first results for the Dell XPS 15 7590 at this time. It lasts more than 14 hours in our WLAN test at an adjusted luminance of 150 nits, even though the predecessor lasted a bit longer. This is still an excellent result and the optional OLED screen in particular should consume much more power. We also expect shorter battery life for the Lenovo ThinkPad P1 2019 due to the smaller battery capacity (80 Wh vs. 97 Wh). We included both 2018 versions of the ThinkPad P1 (FHD & 4K) for reference.

Previously, the free keyboard fixes applied to anyone with a MacBook dating back to 2015 or a MacBook Pro from 2016 onward. The expanded program includes repairs of keyboards on any Mac laptops purchased within the past four years, and regardless of warranty status. As I wrote at the time, “Basically, it will include all keyboards that use Apple’s butterfly mechanism. This also includes MacBook Air keyboards.”

Apple said at the time that the “vast majority” of Mac laptop customers have had positive experiences with their keyboards, which is a nice variation on the “limited number” of customers who have not.

May 21, 2019: Apple announces a second repair program that day, this one “Flexgate.” You couldn’t be blamed for having missed this one, especially if you were hanging out at the Apple Store at this point waiting for your turn in the laptop repair line. That same day, Apple also said it would offer free repairs to owners of MacBook Pros with backlight issues, dubbed “Flexgate” because the uneven backlighting was possibly caused by a fragile flex cable.

This repair program only applies to 13-inch MacBook Pro models from 2016 (both Touch Bar and non-Touch-Bar models), for up to four years after the laptop was initially purchased. Apple said at the time that a “very small percentage” of 2016 13-inch MacBook Pro displays were affected.

June 20, 2019: Apple announces a battery recall program for MacBook Pros. Which brings us up to date. Apple said some older 15-inch MacBook Pro laptops are at risk of having batteries that may overheat and cause a fire. The company says it has “voluntarily decided to replace affected batteries,” which can be done at the Apple Store or at an authorized Apple service provider. You can also mail your computer in for repair.

Apple says this primarily applies to a “limited number” of 15-inch MacBook Pro units sold between September 2015 and February 2017. There are a few things worth noting about these repair and replacement programs from Apple over the past year. One, some of these have been called “repair programs,” and today’s is a “recall program.” It was worded as such because it poses a safety risk. That’s fairly cut and dry.

Since Apple doesn’t share specifics on how many laptop units have been plagued with each of these problems, it’s hard to know how widespread the problems are. There are Reddit threads, support forums, tweets, and personal reports from journalists; all extremely useful anecdata. Some of these laptops, ones aged four and older, might be reaching the limits of their lifespans, and repairs are to be expected. But as long as the company continues to offer vague statements on a “limited number” of affected units, we don’t know how serious these missteps are within the broader context of the Mac laptop lineup.

Lastly, while Apple is offering free repairs for known issues, it sometimes takes months to address the issues customers have flagged. “Flexgate,” for example, was brought to light in January of 2019; Apple didn’t address it until the end of May. And it took Apple a year and a half––from the fall of 2017 until the spring of 2019––to address the butterfly-switch keyboard problems in a comprehensive way. The number of customers affected by these issues may be limited, but the amount of time it takes to diagnose the problem is not.

Microsoft’s Surface Studio 2 is quite an attractive PC — particularly for designers — but it also comes at a hefty price. If you’ve been looking to get your hands on something similar at a much cheaper price, then the upcoming Sefree Apollo might be worth a look.

Starting at $1,549, the Sefree Apollo is about half the price of a Surface Studio 2. For the money, the Apollo looks to be a virtual clone of the Surface Studio 2, offering a compact PC base attached to a display that can be rotated between 95 and 15 degrees. That display is a 4K touch panel that should offer crisp visuals in either 27-inch or 32-inch options.

Die Speicherausstattung des Swift ist recht großzügig: 16 Gigabyte Arbeitsspeicher, dazu kommt eine SSD mit 512 Gigabyte mit schneller PCIe-Technik. Das sollte für ein hohes Arbeitstempo sorgen. Für Spieler ist das Swift aber nichts, denn die Grafikeinheit steckt wie bei extradünnen Notebooks üblich im Prozessor und bringt für grafisch aufwendige Spiele nicht genügend Leistung.

Das Gehäuse des Swift 7 ist für ein 14-Zoll-Modell sehr kompakt und sehr dünn. Die Abmessungen von 31,8x19,2x1,0 Zentimeter sind größer als bei den meisten 13-Zoll-Notebooks. Um das extrem niedrige Gewicht zu erreichen, setzt Acer auf Speziallegierungen: Magnesium-Lithium und Magnesium-Aluminium. Die sollen zwei- bis viermal stabiler und gleichzeitig deutlich leichter als herkömmliche Aluminiumlegierungen sein.

Doch zum Spielen kommt es nicht nur auf den Prozessor an. Die Grafikkarte spielt in den meisten Fällen eine viel wichtigere Rolle. Von der verbauten Nvidia GTX 1050 Ti mit 4 GB Videospeicher solltet ihr nicht erwarten, dass ihr in Zukunft alle Einstellungen auf Anschlag drehen könnt, wenn ihr eine stets flüssige Bildrate bei voller Auflösung erreichen wollt. Doch wer einen gesunden Mix aus hohen und mittleren Grafikeinstellungen findet, sollte mit dem Grafikchip sowohl heute als auch in naher Zukunft bei vielen Spielen die magische 60-FPS-Grenze knacken. Mehr kann das 60-Hz-Panel sowieso nicht darstellen.

Die Pixeldichte stimmt: 166 DPI sorgen für eine detailreiche Darstellung. Die Bedienung klappt komfortabel mit den Fingern oder einem Stift wie dem HP Tilt Pen (60 Euro). Apropos Bedienung: Auch wenn die beleuchteten Tasten etwas eng beieinanderliegen und die Enter-Taste klein ausfällt, schreibt es sich dank gutem Druckpunkt insgesamt angenehm. Am Touchpad gibt es nichts zu bemängeln, es setzt Eingaben flott und präzise um. Bonuspunkte gibt es für den Fingerabdrucksensor. Äußerlich macht das HP ebenfalls eine gute Figur. Mit seinem bemerkenswert dünnen Aluminiumgehäuse, das zugeklappt nur 1,6 Zentimeter dick ist, sehr geringem Gewicht (1267 Gramm) und geringer ­Betriebslautstärke von 0,3 ­Sone lässt sich das Converti­ble gut transportieren und fast überall nutzen.

Weniger begehrenswert ist die Hardware unter der schicken Schale, sie ist schlicht Standardkost – nicht mehr, nicht weniger. Der Mittelklasse-AMD-Prozessor Ryzen 5 3500U kommt bestens mit Office- und Videoprogrammen klar. So lassen sich Blogeinträge zügig tippen und Urlaubsvideos schnell schneiden. Für die Grafik ist ein Onboard-Chip zuständig. Für aktuelle Spiele ist der Radeon Vega 8 zu schwach, aber fürs Zocken ist das Gerät ja auch nicht ausgelegt. Der Arbeitsspeicher (RAM) ist mit 8 Gigabyte ordentlich, wer aber aufrüsten möchte, wird enttäuscht: Der RAM ist fest verlötet. Auch ist es ganz schön eng im Envy: Um vernünftig zu kühlen, verplanen die Ingenieure den Platz bis ins kleinste Detail. Und das ist ihnen gut gelungen: Nach zwei Stunden Betrieb steigt die Temperatur an der Unterseite nur um 16,9 Grad. So lässt sich das Convertible gut auf dem Schoß nutzen.

Unterwegs kommen Nutzer mit dem Envy x360 erfreulich weit, denn der Akku hält bei der Arbeit mit Office-Programmen ungefähr sechseinhalb Stunden durch. Videos zeigt das Gerät etwa fünfeinhalb Stunden, bevor der Saft alle ist. Gut: Der Akku ist nach zweieinhalb Stunden wieder voll. Bei vielen dünnen Convertibles fehlt der Platz für Anschlüsse, nicht so beim Envy: Drei USB-3.1-Buchsen der ersten Generation haben es an Bord geschafft – zwei vom Typ A und eine vom Typ C. An der C-Buchse kann zum Beispiel eine externe SSD andocken, Daten kopiert das Envy via USB-C dann mit durchschnittlich 267 Megabyte pro Sekunde. Und externe Speicher sind nötig, schließlich hat das Envy lediglich eine SSD mit 477 Gigabyte Speicher. Mit Programmen, Videos und Musik ist die SSD schneller voll, als dem stilbewussten Kunden lieb ist. Schönheit hat eben immer ihren Preis.

Apple ruft die Batterien von «MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-Zoll, Modell Mitte 2015)» zurück. Das Modell wurde hauptsächlich zwischen September 2015 und Februar 2017 verkauft. The battery issues may very well only apply to a “limited number” of laptops, which is what the company almost always says when there’s a problem with its hardware. Apple sells millions of computers per year—18 million Macs were sold in 2018—so even a substantial number of impacted machines could still be considered “limited.” Call it a different kind of theory of relativity.

But the recall is not an isolated incident when it comes to modern versions of Apple’s premium, expensive laptops. The company’s laptops have been the subject of no fewer than five repair notices, including this latest recall, in the past year alone. (Apple has not yet responded to a request to comment on the record about the frequency of its repair and recall notices.) It’s a surprising number of issues for a product line that is emblematic of the company itself and, in the case of the MacBook Pro, one that Apple insists is the “world’s best pro notebook.”

June 22, 2018: Apple announces a free keyboard repair program. Complaints about the butterfly-switch keyboard on Apple’s newer laptops reached a crescendo in October 2017, when journalist Casey Johnston wrote a scathing report in The Outline about the issues she was having with her 2016 MacBook Pro’s faulty keyboard.

It took Apple several months to address the problem in any real way, but in June of last year the company said it was introducing a “keyboard service program for our customers that covers a small percentage of keyboards in certain MacBook and MacBook Pro models, which may exhibit one or more of the following behaviors: letters or characters that repeat unexpectedly or don’t appear when pressed or keys that feel ‘sticky’ or aren’t responding in a consistent manner.”

The repair option was available to owners of nine different models of MacBooks and MacBook Pros, including MacBooks going back to 2015 and MacBook Pros dating back to 2016. Apple said at the time that it was only a “small percentage of keyboards in certain MacBook and MacBook Pro models.”

June 27, 2018: Apple offers free battery replacements for faulty 13-inch MacBook Pros. This one didn’t suck up as much attention in the tech news cycle, but less than a week later Apple said that a component failure could cause built-in batteries to expand, and as such, 13-inch MacBook Pros sans TouchBars were eligible for free battery swaps. But this only applied to older laptops, ones manufactured between October 2016 and October 2017, and Apple said that it only impacts “a limited number of 13-inch MacBook Pro (non Touch Bar) units.”

November 12, 2018: Apple announces a solid-state drive replacement program. On this particular day in the year of two thousand and eighteen, Apple acknowledged that some 13-inch MacBook Pro models were having issues “that may result in data loss and failure of the drive.” As a result, it would replace solid-state drives for free.

Again, these were 13-inch MacBook Pros without Touch Bars; the affected units were sold between June 2017 and June 2018. In the notice that went out about this, Apple also strongly recommended that users make a backup of their laptop data before taking it in for service. But backing up a laptop requires some form of external storage—either a physical drive or a cloud storage account, neither of which are free—and users were left to figure that out on their own.

Apple said at the time that the issue affects “a limited number of 128GB and 256GB solid-state drives.” (Reader, my own personal laptop is one of the affected ones here. I just can’t bring myself to deal with the Apple Store at this point in time.)

May 21, 2019: Apple expands its repair program. Things were quiet on the MacBook front for a while, and then in March 2019 The Wall Street Journal columnist Joanna Stern wrote an entire column with letters missing as a result of her faulty MacBook Pro keyboard.

On May 21, as part of a larger MacBook Pro refresh, Apple said it was expanding its keyboard repair program. The just-announced laptops are still using Apple’s third-generation butterfly-switch keyboard, but the keyboards on the newest models have some physical material changes that the company said would address some of the issues people had been experiencing. (An iFixit teardown later revealed what some of these material changes might be.)

The batteries were also sold as accessories or provided as replacements from December 2015 through December 2018 for the above products, as well as additional products through HP or an authorized HP Service Provider, including certain HP Mobile Thin Client products.Many of these batteries are internal to the system, which means they are not customer-replaceable. HP is providing battery replacement services by an authorized technician at no cost.

The problem: According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission’s January 2018 report on the initial recall, HP had received eight reports of batteries overheating, melting, or charring. The malfunctioning batteries resulted in three incidents of property damage totaling $1,500 and a single first-degree burn to the hand.The fix: To determine whether a particular battery is affected, go to HP’s website and download the utility, which will identify recalled batteries.

If a battery is affected, the next step is to install a BIOS update that places the battery in Battery Safety Mode so that the notebook or workstation can be safely used without the battery by connecting to an HP power adapter. Battery Safety Mode causes the battery to discharge and disables future charging.Even though the government shutdown ended more than a month and a half ago, we’re still feeling its effects. That’s because, despite HP issuing an expansion for a battery recall back in January, the notice wasn’t posted to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) website until earlier this week due to the shutdown.

HP’s latest battery woes actually stem back to a recall covering 50,000 affected units first issued in January 2018, which was then expanded earlier this year to include another 78,500 or so at-risk systems and battery accessories. Meanwhile, on the most recent recall alert posted by the CPSC on March 12th, a note at the top of the CPSC website says “This recall expansion was previously announced independently on January 17, 2019 by the firm due to US government furlough.”

HP’s laptop battery recall primarily affects a number of the company’s commercial notebooks including various HP ProBooks and HP ZBook workstations, though there are a few consumer laptops mixed in there such as the 11-inch HP Pavilion x360 and HP Envy m6. Some recalled batteries were also sold as accessories or replacement batteries for existing laptops for systems such as the HP Envy 15 and assorted HP Mobile Thin Clients.So far, the CPSC says HP has received eight new reports of these faulty battery overheating, melting, and charring, with one instance of a recalled battery causing minor injury.

Consumers with laptop batteries who think they might be subject to recall are asked to go to this website and download HP’s Battery Validation tool to check if their battery needs to be replaced, as some of the systems affected by the recall have internal batteries that are not user replaceable.HP says it is also trying to proactively notify customers, and if a battery is determined to be part of the recall, HP says owners should stop using the system immediately and put the system in Battery Safety Mode via HP’s BIOS update. From there HP will provide free battery replacement for affected units.

Earlier today Apple announced a recall for some of its MacBook Pro laptops because of problematic and potentially hazardous batteries. The batteries, according to Apple’s support page, “may overheat and pose a fire safety risk.” The recall is said to affect 15-inch MacBook Pros with Retina displays sold between September 2015 and February 2017, and Apple is replacing batteries for free on eligible laptops.

Sie produzieren einen sehr ordentlichen Klang, dem auch längere Zeit zugehört werden kann. Allerdings fehlt es an Bass. Für ein besseres Klangerlebnis empfiehlt sich die Nutzung von Kopfhörern oder externen Lautsprechern.

Der Energiebedarf bewegt sich über den gesamten Lastbereich hinweg auf einem normalen Niveau für die hier verbaute Hardware. Im Leerlauf registrieren wir eine maximale Leistungsaufnahme von 12,5 Watt. Während unseres Stresstests steigt der Bedarf auf bis zu 191,5 Watt. Im Gaming-Betrieb fällt der Bedarf niedriger aus. So messen wir während der Durchführung unseres Witcher-3-Tests eine Leistungsaufnahme von etwa 121 Watt. Die Nennleistung des Netzteils beträgt 200 Watt.

Das Gaming Pavilion 15 bringt es in unserem praxisnahen WLAN-Test auf eine Laufzeit von 4:50 h. Wir simulieren hier mittels eines Skripts die Belastung beim Aufruf von Webseiten. Das Profil "Ausbalanciert" ist aktiv und die Displayhelligkeit wird auf etwa 150 cd/m² geregelt. Unseren Videotest beendet der 15,6-Zöller nach 5:17 h. Hierbei lassen wir den Kurzfilm Big Buck Bunny (H.264-Kodierung, 1.920 x 1.080 Pixel) in einer Dauerschleife laufen. Das Profil "Energiesparmodus" ist aktiv, das Funkmodul ist deaktiviert und die Displayhelligkeit wird auf 150 cd/m² gesenkt.

Es steckt zusätzlich eine 1-TB-Festplatte in dem Rechner. Beide Speichermedien können getauscht werden. Das würde eine Öffnung des Gehäuses erfordern.

Um ein Laufzeitwunder handelt es beim Pavilion nicht. Die Akkulaufzeiten fallen für ein Gaming-Notebook ganz ordentlich aus. Die Chiclet-Tastatur hat sich als alltagstauglich erwiesen. Gut: Eine Beleuchtung ist vorhanden. Das Gerät bietet grundsätzlich ein rundes Schnittstellenangebot. Allerdings vermissen wir einen Thunderbolt-3-Steckplatz. Leider gewährt HP dem Rechner nur eine einjährige Garantie - zu wenig für ein 1.400-Euro-Notebook.

AMD sorgt weiterhin für spannende Zeiten: Mit den neuen Ryzen-3000-APUs hat sich erstmals seit Jahren ein AMD-Notebook an die Spitze unserer Bestenlisten geschwungen. Und das scheint kein Einzelfall zu bleiben, denn das Unternehmen setzt auf alte Stärken, während es Schwächen ausbügelt. Aber Intel schläft nicht.
Der letzte Vergleich der CPU-Riesen im Mobilsegment ist noch gar nicht so lange her: 2018 haben wir AMDs Mobile Ryzen gegen Intels Kaby-Lake-Refresh antreten lassen, mit eindeutigem Ergebnis: Ryzen bietet zwar durchaus Performance, die Intel schlägt, aber hat dabei quasi geschummelt. Denn die "mobilen" Prozessoren saugten so schnell Strom aus dem Akku oder pumpten Gewicht und Format der Notebooks dermaßen auf, dass es sich eher um Desktop-Rechner mit angetackertem Bildschirm handelte. Ganz klar: Die Prozessoren waren am Markt vorbei entwickelt. Das zeigte sich auch im Handel, denn wer einen AMD-Laptop suchte, musste dafür die Lupe zur Hand nehmen. Intel konnte weiterhin auf ihrem Monopol hocken, gemütlich den technologischen Vorsprung ausbauen und fleißig das Geld zählen.

Das war insofern ernüchternd, als dass AMD mit den Desktop-CPUs gigantische Fortschritte gemacht und in der zweiten Generation mit Zen+-Architektur Intel rechts überholen konnte (Ryzen 7 2700X im Test). Die Prozessoren konnten nicht nur mit Core i7 & Co. auf Augenhöhe boxen, sondern haben sie regelmäßig geschlagen – bei geringeren Preisen und guter Effizienz. Gerade diese Effizienz hat Hoffnung darauf gemacht, dass AMD nun auch ins Notebooksegment einbricht und dort den Markt ordentlich aufwirbelt, was natürlich den Kunden und Kundinnen zugute kommt. Ohne Konkurrenz kriegt schließlich niemand die besten Preise – außer der Marktbeherrscher.

Das alles scheint nun rasant Vergangenheit zu werden: Die Ryzen-3000-Serie mit Zen-2-Architektur ist gerade dabei, Intel in allen Kategorien vernichtend zu schlagen (alle CPUs im Test). Teil der Rechnung ist AMDs unerwartete Überholung bei der Fertigungstechnik. Denn während das Unternehmen dieses Jahr schon mit einer Strukturbreite von 7 Nanometern an den Start ging, kommen Intels Desktop-Prozessoren vermutlich frühstens 2020 auf den Markt – mit 10 Nanometern. Diese ist zwar kein definitives Benchmark für die Güte einer CPU, bietet aber Potenzial – entweder für mehr Transistoren auf gleicher Chipfläche oder gleich viele Transistoren auf kleinerer Chipfläche. Die erste Variante steigert die Leistung, die zweite die Effizienz, was gerade Mobilgeräten zugute kommt.

Und da kommen die neuen Ryzen-Mobilprozessoren ins Spiel – und gleich mit einem Paukenschlag. Ein Notebook hat sich beispielsweise sofort an die Spitze unserer Bestenliste der Geräte bis 500 Euro gesetzt. Das HP-Notebook bot zum Testzeitpunkt in seiner Sparte nicht nur die beste Leistung, sondern war puncto Mobilität immerhin befriedigend und nicht mehr grottenschlecht. Außerdem war das HP 15-db1002ng (siehe Video oben) mit rund 450 Euro spitzenmäßig bepreist. (Anmerkung: Inzwischen ist das Modell, vermutlich wegen erhöhter Nachfrage, 100 Euro teurer geworden und steht nun in unserer Bestenliste ab 500 Euro).

Den für ein Gaming-Notebook nötigen Speicherplatz stellt eine 2,5-Zoll-Festplatte (Seagate Barracuda Pro) mit einem Fassungsvermögen von 1 TB bereit. Sie arbeitet mit 7.200 Umdrehungen pro Minute.Die GPU gehört der oberen Mittelklasse an und basiert auf der Turing-Architektur. Im Gegensatz zu den Turing-GPUs der RTX-2000-Reihe bietet die GTX 1660 Ti Max-Q keine Raytracing- und kein Tensor-Kerne. Die im Prozessor integrierte UHD-Graphics-630-GPU ist aktiv, und das Notebook arbeitet mit Nvidias Umschaltgrafiklösung Optimus.

Die GTX 1660 Ti Max-Q unterstützt DirectX 12 und arbeitet mit einer Basisgeschwindigkeit von 1.140 MHz. Per Boost ist eine Steigerung auf bis zu 1.335 MHz möglich. Es können allerdings auch höhere Geschwindigkeiten erreicht werden, wenn die GPU eine festgelegte Temperatur- und/oder Energieschwelle nicht erreicht. So registrieren wir ein Maximum von 1.500 MHz, das allerdings nur kurz gehalten werden kann. Der Witcher-3-Test wird mit einer Durchschnittsgeschwindigkeit von 1.377 MHz durchlaufen. Die GPU kann dabei auf schnellen GDDR6-Grafikspeicher (6.144 GB) zurückgreifen.

Die Resultate in den 3D-Mark-Benchmarks bewegen sich auf einem normalen Niveau für diese GPU. Sie positioniert sich knapp vor der GTX 1060. Im Akkubetrieb steht weniger als die Hälfte der Grafikleistung zur Verfügung.Die Hardware des Pavilion kann alle aktuellen Spiele in Full-HD-Auflösung und mit hohen bis teilweise maximalen Qualitätseinstellungen flüssig auf den Bildschirm bringen. Auflösungen jenseits von Full HD bewältigt die verbaute GPU in erster Linie im Zusammenspiel mit Spielen, die schon ein paar Jahre auf dem Buckel haben bzw. keine allzu hohen Anforderungen an die Hardware stellen.

Ein Gaming-Notebook muss über einen längeren Zeitraum weitgehend konstante Bildwiederholraten auf einem spielbaren Niveau liefern können. Ob HPs 15,6-Zöller dazu in der Lage ist, überprüfen wir, indem wir das Spiel "The Witcher 3" für etwa 60 Minuten mit Full-HD-Auflösung und maximalen Qualitätseinstellungen laufen lassen. Der vom Spieler verkörperte Charakter wird dabei über den gesamten Zeitraum nicht bewegt. Ein Einbruch der Bildwiederholraten ist nicht festzustellen.

Auch das Gaming Pavilion 15 gehört zu den HP-Notebooks bei denen die HP eigene BIOS-Option "Fan always on" (Lüfter immer an) aktiviert ist. Somit arbeiten die Lüfter auch im Leerlauf permanent. Wirklich zu hören sind sie dabei aber nicht. Wir messen einen maximalen Schalldruckpegel von 29,3 dB(A). Würde die BIOS-Option deaktiviert werden, stünden die Lüfter auch mal still. Lautlosigkeit würde dann aber nur herrschen, wenn nicht auf die 2,5-Zoll-Festplatte zugegriffen würde. Ihr Rauschen ist zu hören.

Auch unter Last lassen es die beiden Lüfter verhältnismäßig moderat angehen. Während des Stresstests registrieren wir einen maximalen Schalldruckpegel von 41,2 dB(A) - ein guter Wert für ein Gaming-Notebook. Im Gaming-Betrieb geht das Notebook leiser zu Werke. So liegt der Pegel während des Witcher-3-Tests bei 34 dB(A), bei CPU-lastigeren Spielen steigt er auf bis zu 37,3 dB(A). Alles in allem steht das Notebook seinem 17,3-Zoll-Schwestermodell in Sachen Lärmentwicklung in nichts nach.

Unseren Stresstest (Prime95 und FurMark laufen für mindestens eine Stunde) durchläuft das Gaming Notebook im Netz- und im Akkubetrieb auf unterschiedliche Weisen. Zu Beginn des Tests arbeitet der Prozessor mit 2,5 bis 2,6 GHz. In den ersten zehn Minuten des Tests sinkt der Takt auf 2 bis 2,1 GHz und verbleibt für die restliche Dauer des Tests auf diesem Niveau. Der Grafikkern erreicht anfänglich Geschwindigkeiten zwischen 1.000 und 1.100 MHz. Während der CPU-Takt in den ersten Minuten des Tests sinkt, steigt der GPU-Takt auf 1.290 MHz und verbleibt auf diesem Niveau. Im Akkubetrieb liegen die Arbeitsgeschwindigkeiten bei 800 bis 1.200 MHz (CPU) bzw. 1.000 bis 1.100 MHz (GPU). Der Stresstest stellt ein Extremszenario dar, welches so im Alltag nicht auftritt. Wir überprüfen mit diesem Test, ob das System auch bei voller Auslastung stabil läuft.

Durch das von uns bereitgestellte Farbprofil kann die Farbdarstellung des Bildschirms entsprechend unserer Kalibrierung angepasst werden. Im Falle des HP Notebooks ist dies - wie sich gezeigt hat - unnötig. Falls das Vorhaben dennoch durchgeführt wird, gilt es darauf zu achten, dass das gleiche Displaymodell (Hersteller + Modellnummer) verbaut ist wie in unserem Testgerät. Ansonsten kann sich die Farbdarstellung verschlechtern. Es kommen innerhalb einer Notebook-Modellreihe oftmals Bildschirme verschiedener Hersteller zum Einsatz.

HP hat mit dem Gaming Pavilion 15 ein 15,6-Zoll-Gaming-Notebook im Sortiment. Es bringt jedes aktuelle Spiel flüssig auf den Bildschirm und gibt auch in allen anderen Anwendungsbereichen eine gute Figur ab. Für unser Testgerät müssen etwa 1.400 Euro hingelegt werden. Andere Ausstattungsvarianten sind verfügbar. Das zum Testzeitpunkt günstigste Modell ist für knapp 700 Euro zu haben. Es ist mit einem Core-i5-9300H-Prozessor und einer GeForce-GTX-1050-GPU bestückt.

HP stattet das Notebook mit einem Core-i7-9750H-Sechskernprozessor (Coffee Lake Refresh) der Firma Intel aus. Eine passende Wahl für ein kompaktes Gaming-Notebook, denn die CPU stellt einen guten Kompromiss aus Leistung, Energiebedarf und Einkaufspreis dar. Entsprechend treffen wir den Prozessor in vielen Gaming-Notebooks an. Der 9750H arbeitet mit einer Basisgeschwindigkeit von 2,6 GHz. Per Turbo kann der Takt auf 4 GHz (sechs Kerne), 4,1 GHz (fünf Kerne), 4,2 GHz (vier Kerne), 4,3 GHz (drei Kerne), 4,4 GHz (zwei Kerne) bzw. 4,5 GHz (ein Kern) gesteigert werden.

Den Multi-Thread-Test des Cinebench R15 bearbeitet der Prozessor kurzzeitig mit 4 GHz. Dann sinkt der Takt auf 3 bis 3,3 GHz. Der Single-Thread-Test wird mit 4,0 bis 4,5 GHz absolviert. Soweit das Verhalten im Netzbetrieb. Im Akkubetrieb liegen die Geschwindigkeiten bei 2,5 bis 2,9 GHz (Multi-Thread) bzw. 2,5 bis 4,5 GHz (Single-Thread).

Ob der CPU-Turbo im Netzbetrieb auch dauerhaft genutzt wird, überprüfen wir, indem wir den Multi-Thread-Test des Cinebench R15 für mindestens 30 Minuten in einer Dauerschleife laufen lassen. Die Resultate fallen vom ersten zum zweiten Durchgang hin um gut 10 Prozent ab und verbleiben dann auf einem konstanten Niveau. Der Turbo kommt zum Einsatz, arbeitet aber nicht mit voller Kraft.

Die Resultate der CB15-Schleife enttäuschen etwas. Das HP Notebook schneidet hier klar schlechter ab als die ebenfalls mit Sechskernprozessoren bestückten Konkurrenten. Das scheint auch seitens HP so vorgesehen zu sein. Das mit der gleichen CPU-GPU-Kombination bestückte 17,3-Zoll-Schwestermodell liefert ähnliche Werte.

Schon ein Blick auf die Ausstattungsliste verrät, dass es dem Gaming Pavilion nicht an Systemleistung mangelt. Ein starker Sechskernprozessor, im Dual-Channel-Modus laufender Arbeitsspeicher und eine schnelle NVMe-SSD sorgen für ein flink und flüssig arbeitendes System. Dazu gesellt sich eine Mittelklasse-GPU, die alle aktuellen Computerspiele auf den Bildschirm bringen kann. Die sehr guten Resultate in den PC-Mark-Benchmarks bescheinigen dem Notebook, dass es genug Rechenleistung auch für Anwendungen jenseits des Gamings bietet.

Als Systemlaufwerk dient eine NVMe-SSD aus dem Hause Samsung. Es handelt sich um ein Modell im M.2-2280-Format, das 256 GB Speicherplatz bietet. Im Auslieferungszustand sind davon etwa 200 GB nutzbar. Der restliche Speicherplatz wird von der Recovery Partition und der Windows Installation belegt. Dank ihrer Anbindung per PCI Express liefert die SSD hervorragende Transferraten. Diese fallen bei NVMe-Speichermedien deutlich höher aus als bei SATA-III-Modellen (max. 600 MB/s).

Das HP Gaming Notebook wartet insgesamt mit einer runden Schnittstellenauswahl auf. Alle drei Typ-A-USB-Steckplätze arbeiten nach dem USB-3.2-Gen-1-Standard, der Typ-C-USB-Anschluss nach dem USB-3.2-Gen-2-Standard. Letzterer unterstützt Displayport-per-USB-C (hierfür wird ein separat zu erwerbender Adapter benötigt). Dazu gesellen sich ein HDMI-2.0-Ausgang, ein Audiokomboanschluss, ein Gigabit-Ethernet-Steckplatz und eine Öffnung für ein Kabelschloss. Die Steckplätze befinden sich in den hinteren Bereichen der rechten und linken Seite. Eine Behinderung der Maus-Nutzung durch Kabel ist eher unwahrscheinlich.

Wir hätten einen Thunderbolt-3-Steckplatz einem USB-3.2-Gen-2-Anschluss vorgezogen. Dieser sollte bei einem Gaming-Notebook der hier vorliegenden Preisklasse zur Standardausstattung zählen. Er würde die Möglichkeit eröffnen eine leistungsfähigere, externe GPU anzustöpseln.Der Speicherkartenleser nimmt SD-Karten komplett auf; sie ragen nicht heraus. Zudem werden diese im Lesegerät arretiert. Das hier verbaute Lesegerät gehört zu den schnelleren Vertretern seiner Art. Beim Kopieren großer Datenblöcke wird eine maximale Transferrate von 77,6 MB/s erreicht. Die Übertragung von 250 jpg-Bilddateien (je rund 5 MB) wird mit einer Geschwindigkeit von 74,1 MB/s absolviert. Wir testen Speicherkartenleser mittels einer Referenzkarte (Toshiba Exceria Pro SDXC 64 GB UHS-II).

Das WLAN-Modul trägt einen Chip der Firma Realtek (RTL8822BE). Dieser unterstützt neben den WLAN-Standards 802.11 a/b/g/n auch den schnellen ac-Standard. Zudem bietet er Bluetooth-4.2-Funktionalität. Die von uns unter optimalen Bedingungen (keine weiteren WLAN-Geräte in der näheren Umgebung, geringer Abstand zwischen Notebook und Server-PC) ermittelten Übertragungsgeschwindigkeiten fallen gut aus. HP setzt auf zwei Antennen. Drahtgebundene Netzwerkverbindungen wickelt ein Gigabit-Ethernet-Chip aus Realteks bekannter RTL8168/8111-Familie ab. Dieser erledigt seine Aufgaben reibungslos.

Eine Wartungsklappe hat das Notebook nicht zu bieten. Um an die Innereien zu gelangen, müsste die Unterschale demontiert werden. Dazu werden alle Schrauben auf der Geräteunterseite entfernt. Anschließend kann die Unterschale mit Hilfe eines flachen Spatels abgelöst werden. Hierbei muss mit Fingerspitzengefühl vorgegangen werden, da die sie haltenden Klammern recht fest sitzen. Anschließend besteht Zugriff auf die gesamte Hardware.

Den Rotstift hat HP bei der Garantie angesetzt. Das Gaming Pavilion verfügt nur über eine nicht zeitgemäße, einjährige Garantie. Umfang und Zeitraum können aber in Form sogenannter Care Packs erweitert werden. HP hält zwei Care Packs für das Notebook bereit: Eine zwei- bzw. dreijährige Garantie wäre für 50 bzw. 65 Euro zu bekommen - inklusive Abhol- und Lieferservice.

Hewlett Packard stattet den 15,6-Zöller mit einer Chiclet-Tastatur aus. Die Haupttasten verfügen über Ausmaße von 15 x 15 mm und sind gut voneinander unterscheidbar. Die leichtgängigen Tasten bieten insgesamt einen mittleren Hub und einen klaren Druckpunkt. Der Widerstand dürfte für unseren Geschmack allerdings knackiger ausfallen. Während des Tippens gibt die Tastatur in der Mitte etwas nach. Als störend hat es sich nicht erwiesen. Die einfarbige Tastenbeleuchtung bietet zwei Helligkeitsstufen, die mittels einer Funktionstaste gewählt werden können. Alles in allem liefert HP hier eine alltagstaugliche Tastatur.

Touchpad
Das multitouchfähige Clickpad belegt eine Fläche von etwa 11,4 x 5 cm. Somit mangelt es nicht an Platz zur Nutzung der Gestensteuerung. Die glatte Oberfläche behindert die Finger nicht beim Gleiten. Das Pad reagiert präzise auf Eingaben - auch in den Ecken. Mechanische Klicks quittiert das Pad mit einem deutlich hör- und fühlbaren Druckpunkt.

Das Display des Gaming Pavilion arbeitet mit einer nativen Auflösung von 1.920 x 1.080 Bildpunkten. Mit einer Helligkeit von 324 cd/m² hat das HP Notebook den hellsten Bildschirm innerhalb unseres Vergleichsfeldes an Bord. Der Kontrast (821:1) fällt akzeptabel aus, sollte bei einem Notebook der hier vorliegenden Preisklasse jedoch jenseits von 1000:1 liegen. Es handelt sich bei dem hier verbauten Panel um ein 144-Hz-Modell, das mit guten Reaktionszeiten aufwartet. Positiv: Das Display zeigt kein PWM-Flimmern.

Der Bildschirm ist bereits im Auslieferungszustand sehr gut kalibriert und punktet mit einer tollen Farbdarstellung. Mit einer DeltaE-2000-Farbabweichung von 1,3 wird das Soll (DeltaE kleiner 3) voll erfüllt. Darüber hinaus leidet das Display nicht unter einem Blaustich. Mittels einer von uns durchgeführten Kalibrierung konnten wir nur eine minimale Verbesserung erreichen. So sinkt die Farbabweichung auf einen Wert von 1,1 und die Graustufen werden noch ausgewogener dargestellt. Der Unterschied ist für den Nutzer nicht zu erkennen. Die Farbräume AdobeRGB und sRGB werden nicht vollständig abgebildet. Hier liegen die Abdeckungsraten bei 60,5 Prozent (AdobeRGB) bzw. 94,9 Prozent (sRGB).

Unter Volllast verhält sich das Gerät sehr leise und lässt keine störenden Beigeräusche hören. Der allgemeine Qualitätseindruck des Gehäuses ist wie bereits erwähnt hochwertig, auch beim Transport fühlt sich das Notebook sehr stabil an. Das Display lässt sich problemlos mit einer Hand öffnen. Durch die besonderen Problemchen der Importversion wurde es am Ende nicht ganz eine Note Zwei, sondern nur ein „befriedigend“. Dennoch lässt sich mit dem Mi Air gut arbeiten.

Als 13-Zoll-Notebook mit dünnen und kompakten Abmessungen und einem geringen Gewicht von 1,3 Kilogramm eignet sich das Xiaomi Mi Air als praktischer Alltagsbegleiter. Bei der Akkulaufzeit sieht es nicht ganz so gut aus, aber immer noch zufriedenstellend. Der 40-Wattstunden-Akku ist etwas knapp bemessen und so hält das Notebook im Videotest 06:28 Stunden und im simulierten Workload-Test 04:13 Stunden durch. Das ist Durchschnitt, mit den 9- und 6-Stunden-Knüllern in unserer Bestenliste kann das Xiaomi-Notebook nicht mithalten. Die Mobilität bekommt von uns dennoch die Note „gut“.

Ein zu hoher Preis für ein Gerät des Preis-Leistungs-Experten
Bei den Smartphones glänzt Xiaomi regelmäßig mit einem super Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis. Dem Import-Notebook Xiaomi Mi Air 13.3, das eigentlich nicht für den deutschen Markt gedacht ist, gelingt das Kunststück nicht. Das Mi Air gibt es zum Testzeitpunkt für rund 1.000 Euro (zum Preisvergleich) und das auch nur eingeschränkt. Um die Verfügbarkeit des Xiaomi-Notebooks steht es hierzulande nämlich nicht allzu gut, es gibt Wartezeiten von mehreren Wochen. Und letztendlich ist der Preis von 1.000 Euro für die gebotene Leistung auch ziemlich hoch. Im Preis-Leistungs-Vergleich in unserer Bestenliste bekommt das Mi Air damit gerade noch die Preiseinschätzung „akzeptabel“.

Die Hardware des HP Gaming Pavilion 15 pinselt alle aktuellen Computerspiele flüssig auf den matten 15,6-Zoll-Bildschirm (FHD, 144 Hz, IPS). Positiv: Das Gerät erzeugt dabei nicht übermäßig viel Lärm. Auch die Ausstattung stimmt: 16 GB Arbeitsspeicher (Dual-Channel-Modus), NVMe-SSD und 1-TB-HDD.


Hewlett Packard hat mit der Gaming-Pavilion-Reihe eine Serie von Gaming-Notebooks im Sortiment. Die Reihe ist unterhalb der HP-Omen-Serie angeordnet und soll mit einem guten Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis aufwarten. So sind die Pavilion-Modelle nur mit GPUs der Mittelklasse (GTX 1050 bis GTX 1660 Ti) zu bekommen. Die GPU-Oberklasse (GeForce RTX) ist den Omen-Modellen vorbehalten. Unser Testgerät wird von einem Core-i7-9750H-Prozessor und einer GeForce-GTX-1660-Ti-Max-Q-GPU angetrieben. Wir haben vor kurzem bereits das mit der gleichen Hardware bestückte 17,3-Zoll-Schwestermodell getestet.

Das uns zur Verfügung gestellte Gaming-Pavilion-15-Modell ist aktuell für etwa 1.400 Euro zu bekommen. Innerhalb unserer Datenbank zählen damit Notebooks wie das Dell G5 15 5590, das CUK Model Z GK5CQ7Z, das Asus ROG GA502DU, das Lenovo Legion Y530-15ICH und das Medion Erazer X6805-MD61085 zur Konkurrenz.Hewlett Packard verwendet beim Gaming Pavilion ein neues Gehäuse. Nichtsdestotrotz ist doch eine gewisse Verwandtschaft mit dem Gehäuse des Vorgängermodells zu erkennen. Das komplette Gehäuse unseres aktuellen Testgeräts ist aus mattem, schwarzem Kunststoff (Shadow Black) gefertigt. Farbliche Akzente setzt HP mit der grünen Tastenbeleuchtung und einem grün-glänzendem HP-Logo auf der Deckelrückseite. Das auffälligste Design-Merkmal stellen die Luftauslassöffnungen auf der Rückseite dar. Der Akku ist fest verbaut. Eine Wartungsklappe hat das Notebook nicht zu bieten. Verarbeitungsmängel offenbart der 15,6-Zöller nicht. Die Spaltmaße stimmen und Materialüberstände sind nicht aufzuspüren. Kritik gebührt allerdings den beiden unteren Ecken des Deckels als auch den Ecken, die sich an den Erhebungen der Luftauslassöffnungen befinden (siehe Bild). Diese fallen sehr spitz aus. Hier besteht Verletzungsgefahr.

Auf Seiten der Stabilität gibt es nichts Großartiges zu bemängeln. So gibt die Baseunit neben beiden Seiten der Tastatur und unterhalb des Touchpads etwas nach - das Ganze bewegt sich aber noch im Rahmen. Das gilt auch für die Steifigkeit der Baseunit. Der Deckel hingegen kann zu leicht verdreht werden. Immerhin führt Druck auf die Deckelrückseite nicht zu Bildveränderungen. Die mittig angeordneten Scharniere halten den Deckel fest in Position, wippen aber etwas nach. Eine Ein-Hand-Öffnung des Deckels ist möglich. Der maximale Öffnungswinkel beträgt etwa 130 Grad.

Hier gibt es jedoch ein Problem: Es existieren nämlich zwei Versionen des Nvidia GeForce MX150 – und welche Variante im eigenen Notebook eingebaut ist, erfährt man als Kunde nicht. Nur mit Hilfe von Hardwareanalyse-Tools sieht man, dass es eine „energieeffiziente“ Variante des Grafikchips gibt, ähnlich den Max-Q-Versionen der GTX- und RTX-Chips. Dieser Alternativ-MX150 mit der Kennung „1D12“ hat eine geringere Taktung und Speichergeschwindigkeit, wodurch die Leistung im Vergleich zum „Standard“-Chip um 20 Prozent geringer ist. Und dieser „langsame“ MX150 steckt im Mi Air.

Die Auswirkungen sind nicht sofort ersichtlich, da der Prozessor für solide Leistung in Multimedia- und Office-Anwendungen sorgt. Wer sich jedoch denkt, dass ein dedizierter Grafikchip dazu einlädt, das Notebook auch zum Zocken zu verwenden, wird überrascht sein: Wie unser Test zeigt, werden Ihnen in PC-Spielen 20 Prozent weniger Bilder pro Sekunde geboten als bei einem MX150 eigentlich zu erwarten sind. Auch Anwendungen wie Grafikbearbeitung können Einbußen zeigen. Grundsätzlich überzeugt die Leistung des Mi Air zwar, aber Sie bekommen genaugenommen weniger als beworben.

Das 13,3-Zoll-Display des Xiaomi Mi Air 13.3 hat viel Gutes und gehört qualitativ zum oberen Drittel unserer Bestenliste. Das IPS-LC-Panel überzeugt mit seiner guten Blickwinkel-Stabilität, also der maximalen Weite des horizontalen und vertikalen Winkels, aus dem Sie auf den Bildschirm blicken können und immer noch einen akzeptablen Kontrast bekommen. Die Maximalhelligkeit des Displays ist mit 301 Candela pro Quadratmeter sehr gut, der Schachbrett-Kontrast mit 188:1 ebenfalls solide.

Die Darstellung des Standard-RGB-Farbraums ist mit 92 Prozent üppig, auch der erweiterte Adobe-Farbraum ist mit 71 Prozent ausreichend abgedeckt. Sofern Sie nicht Profi-Grafikbearbeitung planen, brauchen Sie nicht zwingend mehr. Die Full-HD-Auflösung (1.920 mal 1.080 Pixel) auf der 13,3 Zoll großen Fläche sorgt für eine gute Pixeldichte und ein scharfes Bild. Um einen Touchscreen handelt es sich bei dem spiegelnden LC-Panel jedoch nicht. Insgesamt geben wir dem Display die Wertung „gut“.

Eher weniger erfreut waren wir über die Ausstattung. Fast hätten wir dem Xiaomi Mi Air 13.3 hier die Wertung „ausreichend“ verpasst, weil viel fehlt. Es reichte aber gerade noch für ein „befriedigend“. Der 256 GByte große SSD-Speicher ist zwar erfreulich, mehr gibt es aber nicht: keine HDD-Festplatte, kein optisches Laufwerk und keinen Slot für SD-Speicherkarten. Wenn Ihnen 256 GByte nicht reichen, können Sie nur eine externe Festplatte über USB anschließen. Hier gibt es aber das nächste Problem.

Neben zwei USB-3.0-Schnittstellen von Typ A gibt es zwar auch eine USB-C-Schnittstelle, doch diese ist quasi dreifach belegt: Der Akku des Mi Air wird über USB-C aufgeladen. Hängt das Gerät also am Strom, ist die Schnittstelle belegt. Durch die DisplayPort-Unterstützung lässt sich alternativ ein Monitor über USB-C anschließen, ansonsten müssen sie auf die HDMI-Schnittstelle ausweichen. Und auch wenn Sie die schnelle Datenübertragung für ein Peripherie-Gerät nutzen wollen, muss der Anschluss natürlich frei sein. Insgesamt wurde hier mit einem einzelnen USB-C zu knapp kalkuliert.

Konnektivität ist über WLAN im 802.11ac-Standard und Bluetooth 4.1 gewährleistet, ein Anschluss für Netzwerkkabel fehlt jedoch. Eine Klinkenbuchse für Kopfhörer und Mikrofon sowie eine 1-Megapixel-Webcam komplettieren das Angebot. Als Betriebssystem ist Windows 10 Home installiert. Das Xiaomi Mi Air 13.3 reiht sich in die Riege der Mittel- und Oberklasse-Notebooks ein, die sich bei der Ausstattung auf das „Wesentliche“ beschränken: Möglichst wenige Schnittstellen am Gehäuse sollen möglichst viele Aufgaben übernehmen. Das führt jedoch zu Engpässen, die wir negativ sehen.

Abgesehen von dem bereits erwähnten US-Layout der Tastatur mit unterschiedlicher Tastenbelegung und -form, gibt es an der Ergonomie des Xiaomi Mi Air 13.3 nichts Wesentliches auszusetzen. Die Oberfläche der Tastatur ist zwar etwas rutschig und der Hubweg der Tasten nicht allzu berauschend, der Gegendruck ist aber knackig und das Tippgefühl insgesamt in Ordnung. Es fehlt jedoch auch ein separater Nummernblock. Das Touchpad hat eine gläsern anmutende Oberfläche mit guter Haptik, aber ohne gesonderte Maustasten. Im Mausersatz integriert befindet sich ein Fingerabdruck-Sensor.
