The Envy 13t’s audio output is good enough for listening to dialog in movies or Skyping, but for music, you’ll want external speakers. When I played AC/DC’s "For Those About to Rock," the music was loud enough to fill a small room, but it was tinny.The Envy 13t’s keyboard is so good that it alone makes this laptop a compelling option for students or productivity workers. Competitors take note; HP has shown that, even on a very-thin laptop, you can have a world-class typing experience. Though the keys have a modest 1.2 millimeters of travel (1.5 to 2mm is typical for mainstream laptops), they have such a snappy, responsive feel that I never found myself bottoming out. The keys felt so much like an extension of my finger tips that I was able to match my all-time high of 110 words per minute on the 10FastFingers.com typing test.

The 4.3 x 2.1-inch buttonless touchpad was highly accurate,whether I was highlighting text or navigating around the desktop. The Envy 13t scored a strong mark of 12,225 on Geekbench 4, a synthetic benchmark. The Core i5 version of the XPS 13 notched 13,254 on this test, while the Surface Laptop 2 with a Core i5 chip hit 12,676. The less powerful Y Series processor in the MacBook Air scored under 8,000.
The laptop’s 256GB PCIe SSD took just 24 seconds to copy 4.97GB of mixed media files. That’s a comfortable rate of 212 MBps, which would dwarf any laptop with a mechanical hard drive or a slower SSD. Still, the premium laptop average is closer to 500 MBps now.

With its integrated Intel UHD 620 GPU on-board, the Envy 13t can’t replace a gaming rig, but it can play videos and run less-demanding titles. When we fired up the Dirt 3 racing game, HP’s laptop managed a strong frame rate of 48 fps, which is more than playable. However, the XPS 13 hit 57 fps and the Surface Laptop 2 reached 82 fps.

On 3DMark Ice Storm Unlimited, a synthetic graphics test, the Envy 13t scored a fairly strong 77,685.The Microsoft Surface Laptop 2 scored a lower 71,647. The XPS 13 (77,584) was in the same ballpark as the HP.If you’re heading to work or school, the Envy 13t can tag along while you leave its charger at home. The laptop lasted a strong 9 hours and 46 minutes on the Laptop Battery Test, which involves continuous surfing over Wi-Fi. That’s better than the Surface Latop 2 (9:22) and MacBook Air (9:32), but the Dell XPS 13 lasted a much longer 11:59.

The Envy 13t’s 720p camera is good enough to use for Skype calls, but if you are podcasting or making a really important call, you’ll want to invest in an external webcam. When I shot an image of myself under the flourescent lights of my office, the blue in my shirt appeared dull and flat and fine details like the hairs in my beard and pores in my skin were impossible to distinguish. The image was very bright, but there was a lot of visual noise in the background.

2. Auf SSD umsteigen
Viele neuen Notebooks und PCs werden mit SSD-Festplatten (Solid State Drive) ausgestattet. Das hat seinen Grund: Sie gelten als deutlich leistungsfähiger und robuster als herkömmliche HDD-Festplatten. Außerdem verbrauchen sie weniger Strom und arbeiten leiser.

Auch wer einen alten PC nutzt, muss auf die Vorteile nicht verzichten. Der Einbau einer SSD-Festplatte ist einfach und der Effekt ist spürbar. Der Computer fährt schneller hoch und kopiert große Datenmengen im Eiltempo. Empfehlenswerte Modelle gibt es schon für unter 60 Euro.

Klicken Sie im Start-Menü oder auf dem Desktop mit der rechten Maustaste auf ein Programmsymbol (beziehungsweise auf eine Verknüpfung eines Ordners) und wählen aus dem Kontextmenü den Eintrag Eigenschaften aus.
Klicken Sie jetzt mit dem Mauszeiger unter dem Reiter "Verknüpfung" in die Eingabezeile neben Tastenkombination. Hier wird standardmäßig der Text "Keine" angezeigt.
Jetzt brauchen Sie nur noch die gewünschte Taste auf der Tastatur zu drücken. Windows trägt anschließend die Bezeichnung automatisch ein. Mit einem Druck auf die Korrekturtaste löschen Sie Ihre Eingabe wieder. Die Einstellungen werden mit einem Klick auf "OK" gespeichert.

Pfad und Tastenkombination überprüfen
Sie können Ihre wichtigsten Anwendungen mit nur einem einzigen Tastendruck starten. Der Tipp funktioniert natürlich auch mit Verknüpfungen zu einem Ordner oder Dokument, solange sich die Datei auf Ihrem Desktop befindet.
Das Belegen einer Taste zu einem Programm oder einem Windows-Ordner funktioniert nur dann, wenn im Start-Menü oder in der Verknüpfung der Pfad zu dem gewünschten Programm korrekt ist. Zusätzlich sollte keine andere Anwendung oder beispielsweise ein Tastaturtreiber die ausgewählten Tasten verwenden.

Die Funktionstaste F1 öffnet unter Windows beispielsweise die Hilfefunktion. Die Taste F5 aktualisiert standardmäßig die Desktop-Ansicht. Die Standard-Tastenkombinationen können jedoch auch überschrieben werden.

Eine zwei Jahre alte Sicherheitslücke in der Office-Software von Microsoft macht mal wieder Ärger. Der Konzern erinnert Nutzer daran, die Software zu aktualisieren.

Wie heise.de berichtet, nutzen Angreifer derzeit eine Sicherheitslücke in Microsoft Office, die bereits seit zwei Jahren bekannt ist und mit einem Update behoben werden kann. Durch die Schwachstelle können Rechner schon durch das Öffnen eines Dokuments mit einem Trojaner infiziert werden. Davon bedroht sind Nutzer, die eine veraltete Office-Version nutzen.

Die Schadsoftware wird laut Microsoft durch manipulierte RTF-Dokumente verbreitet. Dabei scheint es sich um eine gezielte Kampagne zu handeln. Die Angreifer haben es vor allem auf Ziele in Europa abgesehen. Nutzer sollten hier verstärkt auf Phishing-Mails mit verdächtigen Anhängen achten. Der Trojaner wird installiert, sobald das Dokument geöffnet wird. Dadurch wird den Angreifern eine "Hintertür" im System geöffnet, durch die weitere Schadprogramme nachgeladen werden kann.

"Wenn ich E-Mails schreiben, Texte bearbeiten oder im Internet surfen will, brauche ich kein teures Gerät", sagt Sebastian Klöß vom Branchenverband Bitkom. Auch "Grafik für den Hausgebrauch", also etwa die Bearbeitung von Ferienfotos, schaffe jeder Laptop: "Das geht ja inzwischen sogar mit dem Handy." Filmschnitt sei dagegen schon aufwendiger.

Auch Christian van de Sand von der Stiftung Warentest rät, sich zunächst über die häufigsten Anwendungen klar zu werden. Danach könne die Produktgruppe und damit auch der Preisrahmen ausgewählt werden: Brauchbare Notebooks gebe es ab etwa 500 Euro, ältere Modelle oder Aktionsware auch für weniger als 400.

Wer dagegen ein leichteres sogenanntes Ultrabook, ein Detachable – ein Notebook, das durch einen abnehmbaren Bildschirm zum Tablet werden kann – oder aber ein Notebook mit 360-Grad-Scharnier (Convertible) bevorzugt, müsse mindestens 1.000 Euro investieren, erläutert van de Sand.

Wie viel Leistung der Prozessor bringen sollte
Die Prozessorgeneration ist eines der zentralen Unterscheidungsmerkmale, die auch den Preis des Rechners bestimmen. Fast alle Notebook-Prozessoren stammen von Intel und AMD. Bei Intel rät van de Sand durchschnittlichen Privatanwendern zum Modell i5. Der i3-Prozessor sei die absolute Basisvariante, i7 für den privaten Gebrauch dagegen schon "sehr anspruchsvoll".

Auch bei AMD, das seine seit 2017 verfügbaren Ryzen-Prozessoren ebenfalls mit ungeraden Zahlen von 3 bis 7 nummeriert, sei man "mit der 5 gut dabei", ergänzt Sebastian Klöß.

Besser mehr Speicher und kleineren Display
Beim Arbeitsspeicher (RAM) raten die Experten mindestens zu vier, besser zu acht Gigabyte (GB). Einigkeit auch beim Massenspeicher: SSD statt herkömmlicher Festplatte, so die Empfehlung. Eine SSD sei heute Standard, sie "ist robust und greift schneller auf die Daten zu, ist aber auch teurer als eine klassische Festplatte", sagt van de Sand. Außerdem verbrauche sie weniger Strom und erhöhe damit die Laufzeit des Notebooks, ergänzt Klöß. Beim Speicherplatz gilt: 128 GB seien das Minimum, 256 GB eindeutig besser.

Die Größe des Displays beeinflusst Preis, Maße, Gewicht und Stromverbrauch. 15,6 Zoll oder mehr sind für längeres Arbeiten angenehmer als kleinere Bildschirmdiagonalen. Berufspendlern, die täglich zwei Stunden im Zug arbeiten, würde van de Sand aber eher zum Ultrabook mit 13-Zoll-Display raten. Das wiege statt zwei und mehr eher um ein Kilo – "das merkt man, wenn man es täglich trägt".

Am 11. Juni veröffentlichte Microsoft ein Update für Windows 10. Die Aktualisierung löst einige Fehler, beispielsweise bei der Darstellung der Mixed-Reality-Tastatur. Gleichzeitig klagen jedoch manche Nutzer über ein neues Problem: Wenn sie den Rechner starten, erscheint ein schwarzer Bildschirm statt die Windows-Oberfläche. Das berichtet "WinFuture".

Auch auf seiner Support-Seite listet Microsoft das Problem. Betroffen sind Systeme mit der Windows-10-Version 1803 (Update KB4503286) und der Windows-10-Version 1809 (Update KB4503327).

Wer vom Fehler betroffen ist, soll die Tasten Strg+Alt+Entf drücken, dann den Power-Button in der rechten unteren Ecke des Bildschirms wählen und den Rechner so neustarten. Laut Microsoft soll das Gerät nun normal starten und das Problem nicht wieder auftauchen.

Apple’s Spotlight, which instantly returns search results of everything on your hard drive, is very useful. But the way it works consumes CPU resources. You can prevent Spotlight from searching your drive.

MacBook Pros have both integrated and discrete GPUs and can switch between the two seamlessly, so you can get better battery life or increased performance, depending on the task. 10. Eject optical disks if you’re not using them/disconnect unused peripherals.
Even when not in use, whenever you have an optical disk in your notebook, the system will occasionally spin up the drive (and the laser) to check the disk. While this isn’t an issue for MacBook Airs, which lack optical drives, you can save battery life by disconnecting any peripherals, such as external hard drives and mice. These devices don’t draw a ton of power, but every little bit helps.

HP’s Envy 13t proves that you don’t have to break the bank to get a lightweight laptop with heavy doses of style and performance. For under $800 ($749 as of this writing), this 2.9-pound ultrabook packs the power of an Intel 8th Gen Core processor, the sexiness of an all-metal chassis and the convenience of all-day battery life. It also has one of the best keyboards on the market. Higher-priced competitors offer more vibrant displays and even longer endurance, but verall the Envy 13t is a fantastic value, especially for college students on a tight budget.
Update May 28: HP’s announced the 2019 Envy 13, which improves the 2018 model with a privacy camera kill switch and a fingerprint reader.

We see so many silver laptops in our lab that it can be hard to tell them apart, but the Envy 13 adds some original touches that make it stand out. The matte aluminum lid has a small incline in the back that covers the hinge, giving it clean, sleek lines. The shiny HP logo in the middle of the lid really pops while the tapered shape of the chassis makes the entire system look slim and sexy. A smooth bottom surface is made from magnesium alloy.

Opening the lid reveals an attractive aluminum deck, completely with silver keys that match the aesthetic (MacBooks break the color scheme by using brown keys). The side bezels around the 13.3-inch screen are relatively thin, but no one would mistake this display for one of the nearly edgeless offerings on Dell’s XPS 13 or Lenovo’s Yoga C930. HP also offers the Envy 13t in a "Silk Gold" color.

At 12 x 8.5 x 0.55 inches, the Envy is slim enough to fit into a narrow pocket in your bag and compact enough to fit on even the narrowest seat-back tray while its 2.93-pound weight makes it very easy to take with you. The Dell XPS 13 and Microsoft Surface Laptop 2 are both lighter (about 2.7 pounds), as is the latest MacBook Air (2.75 pounds).

For a notebook this thin, the Envy 13t has a fair selection of ports, which includes two standard USB 3.0 connections and two USB-C ports, with one of each on either side. There’s also a 3.5mm audio jack and a microSD card slot. The USB-C ports can be used for charging, data and video out, but you they can only accept power from an HP branded charger. The device itself comes with a proprietary, non-USB charger.

The 13.3-inch,1080p touch screen on the Envy 13t offers decent image quality. When I watched a trailer for Thor: Ragnarok, colors like the green in Hela’s cape, the purple on a statue and the red behind the Marvel logo all seemed fairly accurate but they didn’t "pop" like they do on pricier competitors like the Dell XPS 13 and HP’s own Spectre 13. HP also offers the Envy 13t with an optional 4K display, which may be brighter and more vibrant (we haven’t tested one).

According to our colorimeter, the Envy’s screen reproduced a solid 106 percent of the sRGB color gamut. The MacBook Air scored a slightly higher 109 percent, and the XPS 13 fared even better (130 percent at 1080p, 117 percent at 4K). The Surface Laptop 2 is in a class of its own at 176 percent.
The glossy surface on the panel, along with below-average brightness hurts the viewing angles on the Envy. Even from just 45 degrees to the left or right, colors started to fade and the overhead lights in my office reflected back at me. The screen measured a modest 248 nits on our light meter, which is below the 317 percent premium laptop average.

For long-term battery health today, the best tactic is to avoid charging it all the way to 100 percent or letting it run down to zero, says Antonette Asedillo, who oversees CR’s computer testing. "Ideally, you want to keep your battery charged between 20 and 80 percent."Turning off your laptop every day isn’t necessary, either. "It’s fine to leave your computer in standby mode for a few days at a time," Asedillo says. However, to keep it running smoothly, a full reboot every few days is still a good idea in order to receive updates and clear your RAM.

In once instance, a user said their Surface Laptop 2’s battery fell 20% after just 19 minutes. In another, a Microsoft Answer forum user claimed their six-month-old Surface Laptop 2 loses 25% of its charge overnight when it’s turned off.

Surface Pro 4 owners are also having serious problems. One person tweeted that their Surface Pro 4 powers down in less than three hours when surfing the web or watching YouTube. The Surface Pro 4 is now a few years old, so poor runtimes could easily be blamed on the natural degradation of lithium-ion batteries. Then again, batteries shouldn’t drain as fast as some users are reporting and Microsoft won’t want customers to think that their Surface laptop will be a paperweight within a few years.

Microsoft hasn’t released an official statement on the matter but their Twitter support team has been asking users whether the battery drain occurred after an update was installed. This suggests that the battery problems could be software related, and not anything to do with the Surface’s components.
We wouldn’t be surprised if that were the case. Recent Windows 10 updates have caused all sorts of issues, from preventing Bluetooth devices from connecting to a PC to giving an error message when a USB or SD card is connected.

Microsoft Support admitted that the company is currently investigating the problem. Until a solution is found, Surface owners are encouraged to look out for new Windows 10 updates and Surface firmware patches. Microsoft will want to solve this problem soon or risk hurting the image of the upcoming products it’s set to launch at the Surface Event on Oct 2.
The good news is that if the battery problems stem from a software bug they should be fixable through another update — barring that it doesn’t cause even more problems.
After finding that several laptop models could potentially be a safety concern to consumers thanks to potentially overheating batteries, the company took preemptive measures to eliminate the problem. The expansion covers several new models including the HP Probook 64x G2. Similar to last year’s recall, HP says the problem affects only 0.1 percent of laptops sold worldwide over the past several years and stems from manufacturer error.

And just like last year, HP is asking consumers visit this website and download its battery validation tool. One installed, the test will run a diagnostic on your notebook’s battery. If everything’s fine, it’s business as usual for you and your system. If not, the software will initiate Safe Mode and start the process of safely draining your battery. HP will send over a replacement battery and a person to install the part since some battery compartments are harder to reach than others.
If your laptop passed the test last year, HP is strongly recommending that you rerun the test just to be sure. If it passes the test again, you’re good to go and if not, HP will take the proper steps to remedy the problem.
Once again, we applaud HP for taking a proactive approach towards consumer safety and quality control. Although, the defect only affects a small number of systems, it’s great to see HP take the initiative.

Disabling your notebook’s wireless radios is one surefire way to eke out more juice. While turning off Wi-Fi may not be practical in every situation—especially if you need to access the Internet often—it will give you more endurance if you’re using your laptop to watch a movie on an airplane.
At full brightness, the 13-inch MacBook Air’s screen measures an average of 285 lux. At 40-percent brightness (6 bars), it’s just 29 lux, but still very viewable. And brightness eats power.

Tap F1 repeatedly until the brightness is at a level just tolerable enough to view comfortably.

Sogenannte "Shortcuts" bieten für nahezu jede Funktion eines Windows-Rechners eine bequeme Abkürzung. So muss man nicht erst zur Maus greifen und sich durch verschiedene Anwendungen klicken.

Auch die Lautstärke lässt sich unter Windows 10 per Tastatur regulieren. Dabei gibt es verschiedene Wege.

Per Funktionstaste
Die Funktionstasten F1 bis F12 finden sich im oberen Bereich der Tastatur. Diese sind oft doppelt belegt. Ein Symbol verrät, welche Funktion sich dahinter verbirgt. Um die Zweitfunktion zu aktivieren muss zeitgleich die Taste "FN" gedrückt werden. Diese finden Sie rechts unten zwischen "Alt Gr" und "Strg".

Ist beispielsweise die F5-Taste mit der Multimedia-Funktion "Lautstärke erhöhen" belegt, müssen Sie die Kombination "FN" + "F5" drücken, bis das gewünschte Audiolevel erreicht ist.

Wenn Ihre Tastatur keine eigene Lautstärke-Funktion mitbringt, können Sie selbst einen Shortcut erstellen. Sie müssen dafür nur eine Desktop-Verknüpfung anlegen und mit einer Tastenkombination hinterlegen.

Die Lautstärke über die Tastatur zu regeln ist sehr praktisch, da zur Steuerung nicht zuerst ein Fenster minimiert, der Lautstärkeregler geöffnet, die Lautstärke geändert und die ursprüngliche Anwendung wieder hervorgeholt werden muss.

Natürlich lässt sich der Schnellstart per Taste auf beliebige Anwendungen übertragen, beispielsweise auf den Browser oder das E-Mail-Programm.

Was vor einigen Jahren noch atemberaubend schnell erschien, ist unter den schnellsten Supercomputern der Welt inzwischen Standard: Trotzdem kritisieren Experten die Liste mit den neuen Rekordhaltern.

Die Liste der 500 schnellsten Supercomputer der Welt hat in ihrem 26. Jahr einen Meilenstein erreicht: Erstmals kommt selbst der an letzter Stelle gelistete Rechner auf eine Leistung im Petaflops-Bereich. Ein Petaflops entspricht einer Billiarde Rechenoperationen pro Sekunde – eine Schnelligkeit, die noch vor einigen Jahren nur wenigen Anlagen vorbehalten war.

Angeführt wird die Bestenliste, die zweimal im Jahr zur International Supercomputing Conference (ISC) veröffentlicht wird, von zwei in den USA betriebenen Anlagen, Platz drei und vier belegt China. Auch Deutschland hat es unter die Top Ten geschafft. Die Anlage SuperMUC-NG am Leibniz Rechenzentrum bei München schaffte es mit einer Leistung von 19,5 Petaflops auf Platz neun.

Die schnellsten Computer des Welt kommen aus den USA
Die ersten beiden Plätze belegen von IBM gebaute Supercomputer. "Summit" ist mit einer Rekordleistung von 148,6 Petaflops der schnellste Rechner der Welt und steht am Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Tennessee. Platz zwei nimmt die Anlage "Sierra" am Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in Kalifornien ein, die auf eine Spitzenleistung von 94,6 Petaflops kommt.

Dicht auf den Fersen folgt China mit seinem schnellsten System "Sunway TaihuLight", das mit 93 Petaflops am nationalen Supercomputer-Zentrum in Wuxi installiert ist. Auch den vierten Platz belegt China mit "Tianhe-2A", genannt "Milky Way", aus Guangzhou mit 61,4 Petaflops.

Die USA haben China in den Top Ten abgehängt
Neu in die Top Ten rückte "Frontera", ein amerikanischer Supercomputer mit einer Spitzenleistung von 23,5 Petaflops des Herstellers Dell, das an der Uni in Texas eingesetzt wird. Die USA kommen insgesamt auf fünf Anlagen in den Top Ten, die vor einem Jahr noch China angeführt hatte. Neben den USA und China sind noch die Schweiz ("Piz Daint" mit 21,2 Petaflops auf Platz sechs), Japan ("AI Bridging Cloud Infrastructure" mit 19,8 Petaflops auf Platz acht) sowie Deutschland vertreten.

Microsoft hat auf seiner Website einen Fehler bestätigt, der bei einigen Nutzern auftreten kann. Dabei informiert der Rechner darüber, dass der Dienst Remote Access Connection Manager (RASMAN) beendet wurde. Zudem wird der Fehlercode "0xc0000005" angezeigt, wenn die Telemetriedaten von Windows 10 auf "0" gesetzt sind. Das berichtet "WindowsArea.de". Der Fehler tritt seit dem Update KB4497935 für das Mai-Update auf. Zudem sollen nur Nutzer betroffen sein, die ihr VPN-Profil auf "Always on" gestellt haben. VPN steht für Virtual Private Network. Nutzer einer alten Firefox-Version surfen gefährlich: Der beliebte Browser weist zwei Sicherheitslücken auf, die kurz nacheinander entdeckt und vom Hersteller gefixt wurden. Was jetzt zu tun ist.

Im Firefox-Browser ist zum zweiten Mal in dieser Woche eine gefährliche Sicherheitslücke geschlossen worden. Nutzer müssen erneut darauf achten, dass bei ihnen die aktuellste Version (67.0.4) installiert ist und das Update gegebenenfalls selbst anstoßen. Das funktioniert beides unter "Hilfe/Über Firefox".

Wie schon bei der ersten handelt es sich auch bei der neuerlichen Schwachstelle offenbar um eine sogenannte Zero-Day-Sicherheitslücke, die bereits von Angreifern ausgenutzt wird – auch in Kombination mit der vorangegangenen Schwachstelle, um Schadsoftware auf dem System auszuführen.

Angreifer können den Rechner abstürzen lassen
Erst am Vortag hatte Mozilla wegen einer kritischen Sicherheitslücke ein Update für den Firefox-Browser veröffentlicht. Auch weil die Schwachstelle offenbar bereits ausgenutzt wird, sollten Nutzer des Browsers so schnell wie möglich auf die sichere Version aktualisieren, rät Entwickler Mozilla. Die Sicherheitslücke ermögliche es Angreifern, einen Absturz des Rechners zu provozieren und bei dieser Gelegenheit Schadsoftware auf dem System auszuführen.

Die aktuell installierte Firefox-Version lässt sich unter "Hilfe/Über Firefox" prüfen. Sollte das Update noch nicht eingespielt sein, wird Nutzern die Aktualisierung an dieser Stelle angeboten.

Im Mai hat Microsoft die seine neue Windows-10-Version 1903 veröffentlicht. Wer frühere Funktions-Updates übersprungen hat, soll spätestens jetzt wechseln. Dafür sorgt Microsoft mit einer Zwangs-Aktualisierung.

Wie bereits angekündigt, beginnt Microsoft im Juni mit der zwangsweisen Verteilung seines neuen Windows-Updates für Anwender, die noch eine alte Version von Windows 10 nutzen. Hintergrund ist, dass der Support für Windows 1803 am 12. November 2019 ausläuft. Windows 1803 wurde im April 2018 veröffentlicht und ist damit gut ein Jahr alt. In der Zwischenzeit hat Microsoft zwei weitere Funktions-Updates herausgebracht: eines im Herbst 2018, das andere am 21. Mai dieses Jahres.

Nutzer konnten das Update bislang manuell anstoßen oder hinauszögern. Für PCs, die noch immer mit der Windows-Version aus den Vorjahren laufen, soll die Aktualisierung bald aber erzwungen werden. Nur so könne sichergestellt werden, dass sie nach dem 12. November weiterhin mit Sicherheitsupdates versorgt werden, erklärt Microsoft auf einer Support-Seite.

Welche Systeme das Zwangs-Update brauchen und gefahrlos aktualisiert werden können, soll demnach mit Hilfe eines maschinellen Lernprozesses festgestellt werden. Die Nutzer müssen also nicht selbst aktiv werden, können den Prozess aber auch nicht beeinflussen oder hinauszögern. Wer nicht von dem Zwangs-Update überrascht werden möchte, sollte die Aktualisierung manuell durchführen. Wie das geht, erklärt diese Fotoshow.

Nutzer von älteren Mac-Rechnern sollten die aktuelle Windows-10-Version auf ihren Computer installieren können. Doch derzeit ist das nicht möglich: Denn Microsoft hat das Update für Macs blockiert.

Auf ältere Mac-Rechner von Apple kann die aktuellste Windows-10-Version 1903 vorerst nicht aufgespielt werden. Microsoft blockiert die Installation nach eigenen Angaben bei bestimmten Rechnern, weil es Kompatibilitätsprobleme mit Treibern gibt. Diese würden zu einem Scheitern der Installation führen. Betroffen seien Macs, die vor 2012 auf den Markt gekommen sind.

Das gleiche Problem könne aber auch bei neueren Macs auftreten, wenn die Software Boot Camp veraltet ist. Diese erlaubt die parallele Installation von Windows neben Apples macOS-Betriebssystem. Für Nutzer mit einem neueren Mac, die beim Windows-Update die Fehlermeldung "MAC HAL Driver - machaldriver.sys" erhalten, kann es sich also lohnen, erst einmal Boot Camp zu aktualisieren.

Laut eigenen Angaben hat sich der Konzern vorgenommen, für das kommende Herbst-Update auf neue Funktionen weitgehend zu verzichten und stattdessen an der Update-Mechanik sowie an Leistung und Stabilität der Systeme zu schrauben. Die neue Windows-Version soll bereits im September erscheinen – aber nur für Geräte, auf denen das Mai-Update bereits eingespielt ist.

Ab Herbst sollen solche Aktualisierungen für Nutzer der neuesten Windows-Version deutlich schneller ablaufen, verspricht Microsoft. Denn künftig will der Konzern die großen Funktions-Updates häppchenweise ausliefern und nicht mehr als Gesamtpaket. Statt also den Rechner zwei Mal im Jahr für längere Zeit außer Gefecht zu setzen, werden Monat für Monat kleinere Wartungsarbeiten durchgeführt.

Das Tech-Magazin "ZDNet" geht davon aus, dass es sich dabei um einen mit dem Streaminganbieter Netflix abgestimmten Werbegag handelt. Am 4. Juli startet nämlich die dritte Staffel der 80er-Jahre-Serie "Stranger Things".

Für die These spricht ein Twitter-Video, in dem sämtliche Windows-Logos der vergangenen Jahrzehnte bis zu den Anfängen des Betriebssystems nacheinander abgespielt werden. Neben Microsoft ließen sich auch andere Marken wie Nike, Schwinn und Coca Cola zu einer ähnlich nostalgischen Werbeaktion überreden.

Bei einigen Nutzern von Windows 10 kann es derzeit zu Verbindungsproblemen kommen, wenn eine VPN-Verbindung aktiviert ist. Microsoft hat den Fehler auf seiner Seite bestätigt – und zeigt, wie er sich beheben lässt.

Unterstützt das Mobilgerät keine Verschlüsselung, sollten die Daten erst einmal gelöscht werden. Danach gilt es, den Speicher randvoll zu schreiben – etwa durch das Filmen einer weißen Wand, rät das BSI. Private Gespräche sollte man dabei allerdings nicht führen, weil mit dem Video ja auch Ton aufgezeichnet wird. Danach löscht man den Speicher erneut und setzt das Smartphone auf die Werkseinstellungen zurück.

Viele kabellose Tastaturen und Mäuse der Firma Logitech weisen Sicherheitslücken auf: Die Geräte sind über Funk angreifbar. Das berichtet das Fachmagazin "c’t".

Durch die Sicherheitslücken sei es möglich, jede Tastatureingabe auszulesen und so beispielsweise Passwörter abzufangen. Angreifer könnten aber auch die Kontrolle über die Tastatur übernehmen und sogar selbst Befehle eingeben. So ließe sich der Rechner leicht mit Schadsoftware infizieren. Schuld ist Unifying-Technik
Schuld sind mehrere Schwachstellen in dem von Logitech eingesetzten Funkstandard. Der Sicherheitsforscher Marcus Mengs hatte diese aufgedeckt und der c’t gemeldet. Von dem Problem betroffen sind alle kabellosen Logitech-Geräte, die mit einem Unifying-USB-Empfänger arbeiten. Man erkennt die USB-Stecker an einem kleinen orangefarbenen Stern-Symbol.

Logitech setzt seit 2009 auf diese spezielle Funktechnik und stattet Mäuse, Tastaturen und sogenannte Wireless Presenter damit aus. Der einheitliche Standard soll garantieren, dass Nutzer bis zu sechs verschiedene Eingabegeräte mit ein und demselben Empfänger kombinieren können.

Das Unternehmen wurde über die Schwachstellen informiert. Ein Firmware-Update im August soll einige der entdeckten Schwachstellen ausbessern. Andere Sicherheitslücken werden jedoch nicht geschlossen, da dies die Funktionsweise der Geräte massiv beeinträchtigen würde.

As we saw in our initial performance testing, now expanded, the quad-core Pro and the similarly configured XPS 13 are the speedier systems, and the jump in CPU options for the MacBook Pro is probably the biggest story here. You may not care about getting a Touch Bar added on (or losing your physical function keys), but this is clearly a big leap in value for the same $1,299 entry price.

The slimmer Air, with its less-power-hungry (and less powerful) Y-series Intel processor, is the battery leader in this roundup. It’s the same processor as the 2018 version, and the 2018 Air/2019 Air battery life scores were just seven minutes apart, so it’s essentially unchanged at 10:39 for the new 2019 model. Slipping in right below is the new U-series quad-core MacBook Pro, at 10:32, so again, very little daylight between them.

It is, however, a nice jump over the last dual-core, no-Touch-Bar MacBook Pro we’ve tested, back in 2017. Since then, we’ve only tested higher-end Touch Bar models. The takeaway is, if you’re trying to decide between a new MacBook Air or MacBook Pro, they both get around 10.5 hours of streaming video battery life, so you won’t have to choose battery life at the expense of power, price, features or design. We’ll be posting our full reviews of the new MacBooks in the coming days.

"Aber es bringt wieder die Frage auf, ob "Künstliche Intelligenz" tatsächlich mit menschlicher Intelligenz überhaupt vergleichbar ist oder sein kann und ob es gut ist, überhaupt von "superhuman’ zu sprechen. Menschliche Intelligenz hat vielfältige Qualitäten – eben nicht nur in einer eng begrenzten Aufgabenstellung."

Microsoft hat ein neues Update für Windows 10 veröffentlicht, das einige Fehler beheben soll und Sicherheitslücken schließt. Doch ein Feature macht immer noch Probleme.

Am Dienstag veröffentlichte Microsoft ein monatliches Update für Windows 10 und andere Produkte. Dabei behebt der Konzern laut eigenen Angaben einige Fehler und schließt knapp 80 Sicherheitslücken – darunter auch kritische.

Sandbox zeigt immer noch Fehlermeldung
Unter anderem behebt der neue Patch ein Darstellungsproblem bei Windows-Mixed-Reality-Headsets und einen Fehler mit BitLocker, eine Software für Festplattenverschlüsselung für Microsoft.

Dagegen nennt Microsoft immer noch ein Startproblem mit dem neuen Sandbox-Feature. Der tritt auf, wenn Nutzer die Sprache des Systems während des Updates auf Windows 10 1903 (Mai-Update) ändern. Auch können einige Nutzer mit VPN-Verbindung immer noch eine Fehlermeldung erhalten. Dieses Problem ist seit Anfang Juli bekannt. Mehr dazu lesen Sie hier.

Knapp 80 Sicherheitslücken geschlossen
Daneben hat Microsoft mit den aktuellen Patches knapp 80 Sicherheitslücken für verschiedene Produkte geschlossen. Darunter Windows Server, Windows 8.1 aber auch verschiedene Windows-10-Versionen wie Windows 10 1803 aber auch dem aktuellen Windows 10 1903. Eine Übersicht finden Sie auf der Seite von Microsoft.

Als eine Schwachstelle für Windows 10 1903 listet Microsoft CVE-2019-0865. Dabei handelt es sich um eine Lücke in der Verschlüsselungsbibliothek SymCrypt und betrifft hauptsächlich Windows Server. Angreifer können die Lücke ausnutzen, um Windows-Systeme abzuschalten.

Besonders gefährliche Lücke dabei
"heise online" nennt als eine besonders gefährliche Lücke CVE-2019-1113. Die Schwachstelle findet sich im sogenannten Net Framework: Angreifer können mit ihrer Hilfe einen beliebigen Code auf dem Rechner ausführen und im schlimmsten Fall den Computer übernehmen.

Auch die Lücke CVE-2019-0880 wurde geschlossen. Sie wird als schwer eingestuft und wurde bereits ausgenutzt. Die Schwachstelle findet sich in der Datei splwow64.exe und erlaubt Angreifern, sich höhere Rechte zu verschaffen. Die Lücke wurde durch einen Google-Mitarbeiter entdeckt und ist Microsoft seit März bekannt. Sie hätte ursprünglich schon im Juni behoben werden sollen. Da das nicht geschah, wurde sie damals öffentlich gemacht.

Wer seinen alten Laptop oder das Smartphone weggeben will, sollte vorher alle Daten löschen. Dabei gibt es einige Regeln zu beachten – ansonsten sind die Daten immer noch abgreifbar.

Die Verwertungsgesellschaft des Bundes (Vebeg) soll nach einem Bericht der "Süddeutschen Zeitung" über Ebay einen gebrauchten Bundeswehr-Laptop verkauft haben, auf dem sich noch vertrauliche, als Verschlusssache klassifizierte Informationen befanden. Der Käufer, ein oberbayerischer Förster, habe auf dem Gerät etwa die Bedienungsanleitung für den Raketenwerfer "Mars" entdeckt und den Fund dem Verteidigungsministerium gemeldet. Anscheinend sei die Festplatte vor dem Verkauf nicht gelöscht worden .

Wer nicht möchte, dass private Daten in die Hände von Unbekannten gelangen, sollte alle Daten auf alten Notebooks richtig löschen – ehe sie verkauft oder verschenkt werden.

So löschen Sie Festplatten richtig
Klassische Festplatten (HDD) mit rotierenden Speicherscheiben lassen sich mithilfe spezieller Programme wie etwa DBAN hinreichend sicher löschen, wenn man die HDD von der Software sieben Mal überschreiben lässt, erklärt das Bundesamt für Sicherheit in der Informationstechnik (BSI).

Anders geht man bei modernen Festplatten mit Speicherchips (SSD) und bei Festplatten vor, die beide Technologien kombinieren (SSHD). Hier sollte der sogenannte Secure-Erase-Befehl ausgeführt werden, der eine auf der Festplatte hinterlegte Löschroutine anstößt, die auch defekte Speicherbereiche einschließt. Funktioniert das Anwenden von Secure Erase mit dem Verwaltungsprogramm des Festplattenherstellers nicht, empfiehlt das BSI als Alternative etwa das Programm Parted Magic .

Was Sie bei Smartphones oder Tablets tun müssen
Und wie verfährt man mit Smartphones oder Tablets , die abgegeben werden sollen? Die Geräte auf die Werkseinstellungen zurücksetzen, genügt jedenfalls nicht, um den Speicher sicher zu löschen, warnt das BSI. Damit keine Daten wiederhergestellt werden können, sollte in den Einstellungen des Mobilgerätes – falls noch nicht geschehen – die Datenverschlüsselung aktiviert werden. Danach führt ein Zurücksetzen des Smartphones oder Tablets dazu, dass keine Daten mehr ausgelesen werden können.

Das Potenzial der Software etwa mit der digitalen Assistentin Cortana, dem neuen Browser Edge und der Unterstützung für Touch-Funktionen hatte Microsoft seither auch mit seiner ersten eigenen Laptop-Reihe, dem Surface Book, unter Beweis gestellt. Nostalgiker, Tüftler und Windows-7-Liebhaber müssen dennoch keinen Kulturschock befürchten. In Fachmagazinen gibt zum Beispiel Tipps, wie man mit zusätzlichen Werkzeugen dem neuen Windows 10 lieb gewonnene Gadgets und das Startmenü verpassen und dem neuen Rechner damit ein Retro-Outfit geben kann.

Wer seinen Rechner auf die aktuelle Version von Windows 10 aktualisieren wollte, konnte vom System daran gehindert werden, wenn ein USB-Stick eingesteckt war. Jetzt hat Microsoft das Problem behoben.

"Pluribus" soll Komplexität der Spielsituation verringern

Nach Angaben der Forscher stellen Spiele mit mehr als zwei Teilnehmern jedoch höhere Anforderungen an den Computer. Brown und Sandholm entwickelten deshalb eine Software mit dem Namen "Pluribus", die die Komplexität der Spielsituation reduzieren soll.

Security protocols for routers improve over time, which means the old ones get outdated. The newest protocol is called WPA3, but not many devices support it yet (though the Synology RT2600ac does). Its predecessor, WPA2, provides the best network security that’s widely available.Make sure in your router settings that you have WPA2 turned on and an older protocol called WEP turned off. (Ten routers we tested still support WEP encryption as an option.) If you have a really old device, it may not support WPA2, but only WEP or WPA.

Though the proliferation of streaming media services for music, movies, and TV shows, and cloud-based software may make it seem like having a built-in DVD drive is superfluous, anyone with a pokey internet connection (or strict data caps) will appreciate the flexibility of being able to use disc-based media. An added bonus: Blank DVDs are inexpensive—you can get 50 of them for $15 on Amazon—in case you want to back up photos or other digital media somewhere other than the cloud.
“My first Mac had a disc drive and, yeah, it was heavy, but I got a lot of use out of it,” Kaplan says. “While I definitely enjoy my current Mac being lighter and thinner, I do miss the luxury of having a DVD drive."

Of course, if your laptop doesn’t have a built-in DVD drive, you can always buy an external drive for $20 to $30 at stores like Amazon, Best Buy, and Walmart. But that’s best for occasional use. These drives typically connect via USB, which means you’ll need an unoccupied USB port every time you want to use it. And if you’re bringing your laptop and some DVDs on vacation, you’ll need to pack the extra piece of electronics. A built-in drive can be more convenient.

The following laptops, which all have built-in DVD drives, aren’t the highest-rated laptops in our ratings, but they’re more than capable of handling everything from browsing the web to editing text documents to touching up photos. And they’re reasonably priced, too.

A. There is indeed a lot of misinformation floating around about how to keep your laptop battery working longer. "That’s because battery technology has improved rapidly, and a lot of old advice stays in circulation even though it doesn’t apply anymore to newer technology," says Rich Fisco, head of electronics testing at CR.Gone are the days when it was important to let your laptop battery drain completely, then charge it all the way back up to 100 percent. "That’s now unnecessary with newer lithium-ion batteries," which power practically every laptop and smartphone, Fisco says.

For instance, though the Netgear Nighthawk mentioned above got high scores across our of all tests, the Netgear Nighthawk AX8 RAX80 did well in terms of performance but lagged behind for security and privacy. If you’re using an older router, you can take several steps to improve both performance and security, says Richard Fisco, who oversees electronics testing at Consumer Reports.First, to boost coverage, try to place your router as close to the center of your home as possible. Then go into your router settings, using the router’s mobile app or web interface, and check the settings to protect your security.Start by setting a strong password. Then take these steps:

Consumer Reports is now recommending nine routers: six traditional units and three mesh models. Consumer Reports uses some sophisticated security tests to evaluate routers. But we also check for basic security practices, and our recent tests uncovered several shortcomings.“Many of the problems we found were simple but meaningful—and they should be easy for manufacturers to fix,” Richter says.

For example, 20 routers let you change only the password, but not the username, of their web apps. The web apps are used for changing all kinds of settings on your router, including your WiFi password (which is separate from the router’s own password).Twenty routers don’t protect against multiple failed login attempts, unlike your phone or email account. That means a determined hacker could use software that rapidly cycles through passwords over and over again until it breaks in.

We also found problems with the passwords themselves.Eleven routers let you set very weak passwords. These may have fewer than eight characters or just lack any complexity (think “aaaaaaaa”). Further, a number of models don’t even let you create great passwords—you can’t use long strings of characters, and special characters aren’t always supported. And one router doesn’t require you to change the default login credentials of "admin" and "password."

Consumers can and should create unique, strong passwords if the router permits it. However, many people fail to do so. In a nationally representative survey of 1,006 American adults we conducted in May 2019, only 38 percent say they or someone in their household had changed their current router’s default password.Many routers, roughly two-thirds of them, had a networking protocol called Universal Plug and Play, or UPnP, turned on by default. Unless you have a device or some software that specifically asks for it, it’s smart to turn this off, because UPnP has a history of serious security vulnerabilities. Our ratings reward routers that arrive in people’s homes with the safest default settings turned on.We also found important differences in how routers handled firmware updates, which are vital for your home network’s security: New malware and hacking techniques are always coming on the scene, and hardware makers need to put out firmware updates to fight them. Consumer Reports recommends that people protect themselves by turning on automatic updates for as many devices as they can, from phones to laptops to routers. But 11 routers don’t support automatic software updates.

In the May survey, two-fifths of Americans who own their own router said they’re unsure when it was last updated. And 11 percent said their router has never had a firmware update. (See router security tips below.)Similarly, just a few router companies explicitly state how long they will provide firmware updates, leaving consumers in the dark about how long the device will be safe to use. CR’s router testing includes the companies’ privacy policies, because so much sensitive data flows through the devices.

Our privacy experts analyzed every router manufacturer’s documentation. We gave better scores to routers—including some models from Eero, Google, and Netgear—that spell out what information their manufacturers might collect from users, such as network speeds, the name of the internet service provider, and how much data you’re transmitting to the web.“As part of the Digital Lab, we’re scrutinizing as many products as we can with respect to their privacy practices,” Richter says. “We are finding similar results across product categories and, in fact, the entire tech industry.”

Today’s wireless routers vary a lot in how well they follow good security practices, but they are generally more consistent when it comes to pure performance.Many of today’s traditional, one-unit routers do a good job of blanketing even big homes with fast internet access. Of the 20 traditional wireless routers in our ratings, 18 earned a score of Good or better for throughput over distances of around 28 feet, which we consider typical for many homes. (We also measure throughput at shorter and longer ranges.)

However, if you regularly deal with dead spots in your home, it may be worth paying more for a mesh router system, which comes with multiple units—you place them around your home, and they all talk to each other to distribute coverage.All nine mesh routers we tested earned a Good score or higher for midrange throughput. Mesh routers also performed uniformly well for far-range throughput, at a distance of between 44 and 100 feet. Only a few routers we tested did well across the board, on security, privacy, and performance.

Among traditional wireless routers, standouts include the Synology RT2600ac and Netgear Nighthawk X10 AD7200. For people who need a mesh router, both the Netgear Orbi and Eero were solid performers.By contrast, a number of routers that did very well on performance suffered in our ratings because of lackluster scores on other measures. For instance, the TP-Link Archer C1900 and Archer C7 AC1750 were penalized for factors such as letting people set poor passwords.

In response to those findings, a TP-Link spokesperson said by email that the company “prefers to give its customers full control and freedom when it comes to their security settings. When you create a password for your router, it does indicate how secure it is—low, middle, high—in order to encourage customers to use stronger, more secure passwords.”Other router manufacturers earned better security scores for some models than for others.

Laut Blass soll Samsung noch 2020 versuchen, zumindest in einem Galaxy-Smartphone einen Graphen-Akku zu verbauen und damit das Ende der Lithium-Ionen-Batterien einzuläuten. Der Energiespeicher soll sich in unter einer halben Stunde komplett aufladen lassen. Samsung arbeitet aktuell noch daran, die Kapazität zu steigern und die Kosten zu senken. Bei neuen Technologien sind diese immer besonders hoch. Sollte Samsung die Massentauglichkeit gelingen, stände der so lang ersehnten Akku-Revolution nichts im Wege.

Was macht Graphen-Akkus so besonders?
Graphen-Akkus lassen sich nicht nur schnell aufladen, sondern besitzen auch eine hohe Energiedichte und sind sehr langlebig. Kommende Smartphones könnten also nicht nur eine spürbar höhere Laufzeit bieten, sondern würden auch in Minuten komplett aufgeladen sein und deutlich länger halten. Da kaum mehr ein Handy einen wechselbaren Akku besitzt, wäre das tatsächlich eine willkommene Verbesserung. Graphen-Akkus sind aber nicht nur für Smartphones interessant. Viele Technologien benötigen Energiespeicher, darunter auch E-Autos oder E-Bikes.
Es wird spannend sein zu sehen, ob Samsung den Umstieg meistert und in welchem Modell der Graphen-Akku verbaut wird. Im Galaxy S11 oder Note 11 vermutlich nicht. Eher in einem Gerät der A-Klasse, wo Samsung gerne neue Technologien vor dem Einsatz in High-End-Modellen ausprobiert.

Mit den neuen MacBooks wird sich Apple am Donnerstag offenbar weitgehend vom MagSafe-Anschluss verabschieden – obwohl dieser sehr beliebt ist. Möglicherweise wird es aber eine Adapter-Lösung geben.

Am Donnerstag wird Apple aller Voraussicht nach neue Modelle des MacBook Pro und MacBook Air präsentieren, die ebenso wie das 12-Zoll-MacBook USB-C-Anschlüsse bekommen dürften. Zusammenfassung: Das erwarten wir vom Apple Event
Die neuen MacBooks, die Apple im Rahmen des Oktober-Events „Hello again“ vorstellen wird, sollen angeblich auch ohne MagSafe-Anschluss auskommen. Das hat den Vorteil, dass überall Auflademöglichkeiten vorhanden sein werden, wenn sich USB-C als Standard erst einmal ähnlich weit durchgesetzt hat wie aktuell Micro-USB. Andererseits entfällt aber der Vorteil, dass man ein MacBook nicht vom Tisch reißt, wenn man über das Kabel stolpert. Einst hat Apple das als großen Vorteil von MagSafe präsentiert, der jetzt ganz entfallen würde.

Dass weiterhin eine Nachfrage besteht, zeigen bereits existierende Adapter-Lösungen wie das „BreakSafe“-Kabel von Griffin. Der Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, der am Wochenende einige weitere Ankündigungen zum Apple Event machte, glaubt, dass es weitere solche Adapter geben wird – möglicherweise auch von Apple selbst als Teil der Präsentation. Zumindest sagen ihnen seine Zulieferer-Quellen, dass sich ein entsprechender Adapter in Produktion befindet.
Ob Apple den Adapter beilegen oder nur separat anbieten wird, bleibt abzuwarten. Einen Adapter für bestehende MagSafe-Netzgeräte dürfte es aber aufgrund der unterschiedlichen Stromspannung nicht geben.

BatteryCare nistet sich im Systray ein. Von hier aus habt ihr bequem per Pop-Up Anzeige vollen Zugriff auf alle Akku-Infos, unter anderem die bisherigen Ladezyklen, Stromverbrauch und den Hersteller. Außerdem findet ihr hier auch die Einstellungsmöglichkeiten des Programms.

Mit dem Asus Transformer Book V hat der taiwanische Hersteller die Kombination aus Tablet, Notebook und Smartphone mit Android und Windows Betriebssystemen wohl aufs Äußerste ausgereizt. Mit diesem 5-Mode 3-in-1 Gerät will man im Grunde alle Einsatzzwecke, die man sich nur denken kann, abdecken. So wird aus einem Windows Notebook ein Windows Tablet, in dem auf der Rückseite ein Android Smartphone eingesteckt werden kann, welches dieses zum Android Tablet oder auch Android Laptop macht. Eine wirklich ungewöhnliche Kombination.

Das Asus Transformer Book V besitzt ein 12,5 Zoll großes IPS-Display, welches im Grunde ein Windows 8.1 Tablet ist. Dieses kann in Kombination mit dem Tastatur-Dock in ein ganz normales Notebook verwandelt werden, mit dem man im Grunde alles machen kann. Angetrieben wird es dabei von den neusten Intel Core i-Prozessoren, bis zu 128 GB internem Speicher und 4 GB RAM.

Dazu bekommt man ein 5 Zoll großes Android Smartphone, welches erstmals mit dem Intel Quad-Core-Prozessor mit 64-Bit ausgestattet ist. Dieses unterstützt natürlich LTE, besitzt auf der Rückseite eine 8-MP-Kamera, bis zu 64 GB internen Speicher und 2 GB RAM. Setzt man dieses Smartphone in das Tablet ein, wie wir es von den Asus PadFones kennen, dann verwandelt es sich in Sekundenschnelle in ein Android Tablet - und zusammen mit dem Tastatur-Dock in ein Android Laptop.

Wirklich alle Details zum Asus Transformer Book V sind noch nicht bekannt. So können wir auch noch nicht genau sagen, ob der Akku im Tablet bzw. Tastatur-Dock auch das Smartphone antreiben kann, um die Laufzeit dementsprechend zu verlängern. In jedem Fall handelt es sich um kein echtes Dual-OS-Tablet, welches durch Microsoft bzw. Google verboten werden könnte, da Android nur auf dem Smartphone und Windows nur auf dem Tablet laufen. Es bleiben zwei getrennte Geräte, wobei das Smartphone das große Tablet-Display zur Anzeige nutzen kann.

Aktuell gibt es noch keine Informationen zur Verfügbarkeit oder dem Preis des Asus Transformer Book V. Wir sind aber sehr gespannt, ob es diese Kombination auch tatsächlich in den Handel schafft oder es wieder Probleme geben wird.

Graphen-Akkus gelten seit Jahren als die „Batterie der Zukunft“. Diverse Unternehmen arbeiten mit Hochdruck daran, diese Technologie in einen Energiespeicher zu verwandeln, der in normalen Produkten, wie Smartphones, verbaut werden kann. 2010 wurden die Entdecker mit dem Nobelpreis ausgezeichnet, 10 Jahre später könnte Samsung als eines der ersten Unternehmen Graphen-Akkus in seine Produkte verbauen – behauptet Profi-Leaker Evan Blass.

Display: Ein Full-HD-Bildschirm mit einer Bildwiederholungsrate von 144 Hz? Hier hat sich Alienware wirklich nicht lumpen lassen. Die Farben wirken dank IPS-Panel sehr knackig und farbecht.
Verarbeitungsqualität: Kein Knacken, kein Knarzen und ein schönes Äußeres – wer seinen Blick über das Alienware m15 schweifen lässt, wird merken, dass die Hersteller nicht nur bei der Hardware, sondern auch der Verarbeitung und der Auswahl der Materialien keine Kompromisse gemacht haben.

Performance: Zu keiner Zeit kam bei mir das Gefühl auf, dass dem Laptop die Puste ausgehen würde. Dank der beiden PCIe-SSDs fallen die Reaktionszeiten von Programmen und die Zeit fürs Hochfahren des Laptops sehr gering aus.
Design: Schönheit liegt bekanntlich im Auge des Betrachters, doch die Nebula-Red-Variante hat mich optisch vom Hocker gehauen. Alienware hat es geschafft, einen perfekten Spagat zwischen dezenter Eleganz und klassischem Gaming-Laptop hinzuzaubern. Nur das klassische Alien-Logo wirkt irgendwie fehl am Platz.
Tastatur: Die einzelnen Tasten der RGB-Chiclet-Tastatur haben sehr gute Druckpunkte und ein angenehmes Spacing.

Alienware m15 im Test: Das hat uns nicht gefallen
Lärmbelastung: Anders kann man es gar nicht nennen. Unter Volllast verwandelt sich der Alienware m15 zu einem echten Laubgebläse und wird sehr laut.
Wärmeentwicklung: Obwohl die Lüfter unter Last richtig aufdrehen, schaffen sie es nicht, die CPU des Laptops effektiv zu kühlen. Die Folge: Das Notebook wird mit der Zeit immer wärmer.
Akkulaufzeit: Die Achillesferse eines jeden Gaming-Laptops. Auch die Akkulaufzeit des Alienware m15 fällt in der Standardaustattung mit etwas mehr als 3,5 Stunden recht dürftig aus.
Fehlender SD-Karten-Slot: Bei soviel Power unter der Haube bietet sich der Laptop beinahe automatisch als mobiler Schnittrechner an. Dennoch suchen Fotografen und Kameramänner vergeblich nach einem SD-Karten-Slot. Schade.

Alienware Command Center: Die Software, mit der die Beleuchtung und die Makros der RGB-Tastatur eingestellt werden kann, ist ein absoluter Graus. Hieran hat vor allem die unübersichtliche Benutzeroberfläche Schuld.
Alienware m15 im Test: Gut zu wissen
Wer den Laptop über die hauseigene Seite von Dell kauft, kann die Hardware auf seine eigenen Ansprüche abstimmen. Neben den üblichen Speicher- und RAM-Up- oder -Downgrades, können in dem Konfigurator auch der Akku, das WLAN/Bluetooth-Modul und sogar das Display ausgetauscht werden.
